Nine breaks drought with rare victory in the west

Ashes helps Nine take all five cities last week -including a rare win in Perth, their best since 2012.

The Ashes on 9GEM, together with other programming, has done what so many shows on Nine could not do -give it a weekly win in Perth, the highest weekly share since August 2012.

Nine rarely won all 5 cities last week, breaking a drought in the west, where the Kerry Stokes-ruled Seven network dominates.

How close? It was a decisive 34.9% to Seven’s 26.8% in Perth. Adelaide was much closer with Nine’s 32.8% pipping Seven’s 32.1%.

The Ashes drew up to 809,000 metro viewers and gave 9GEM a winning 5.7% share.

Seven News topped the week and Dancing with the Stars was the top entertainment show.

Working Dog shows topped both 10 and ABC.

It was also the first week for a clear indication of Breakfast wars with new host Matt Shirvington against returning Karl Stefanovic and Michael Rowland. On that front Sunrise stayed victorious at 234,000 to Today‘s 179,000 and News Breakfast’s 136,000 across two channels.

  1. It’s not fair Channel 9, 9 GEM is not on Foxtel satellite and we can’t use 9 Now as the NBN wireless is terrible in rural NSW.

Why don’t you have it on 9, you can see the ratings, just stupid

  2. Very good win to channel 9 in WA thanks to the ashes. I was a bit skeptical about Nine in the west, but fair to say, I think that they are moving in the right direction.
Nine have a lot of sport up the sleeves including Wimbledon, Ashes, Cricket World Cup and swimming in fukuoka.
