Returning: Grantchester

Tom Brittney and Robson Green are back soon with their proper crime procedural.

Period mystery Grantchester will return for its 8th season on ABC next month.

Star Tom Brittney recently announced his departure from the show after S9 to focus on new projects. He will be replaced by Rishi Nair (Hollyoaks, Count Abdulla) as vicar Alphy Kotteram alongside Robson Green.

For the Vicar of Grantchester, the beautiful small village just outside Cambridge, life is always pretty quiet. Or at least, it was – right up until the moment that murder came his way.

In season 8, Will’s life has changed for the better. He is happily married to the brilliant Bonnie and due to become a father but his world is about to be rocked by a terrible accident.

The body of a 19-year-old biker is found in a field, the day after a charity motorbike race organised by Will. Ron Weller, a mechanic who trains young bikers, his son Jimmy, and many others mourn the loss of a fellow rider.

Will and Geordie struggle to work out who’d want to hurt a gifted young man.

7:30pm Saturday August 5 on ABC.

  1. Both Brittany and Nair are in S9. How long it takes them to write out Will, after a season of him being happily married, we will see. Norton only hung around for a couple of eps so they could add Will and write his character out. And they have put a clock on Geordie with his new boss wanting him gone and retirement approaching, so they could start over in S9.
