Utopia wraps strong season for ABC

ABC comedy concludes season with a timeslot win, but Wednesday was a low night for Network 10.

Utopia has ended its 5th season as a winner for ABC, frequently topping its early timeslot and pulling big lifts in Total TV numbers.

The final episode on ABC led its slot at 504,000 metro viewers then 7:30 (433,000), ABBA Silver ABBA Gold (372,000), Travel Guides (290,000 in 3 cities), The Appleton Ladies Potato Race (202,000) and Who the Bloody Hell Are We? (89,000).

Later Gruen led with 458,000 then The Front Bar (305,000), RBT (247,000), World Aquatic Championships (238,000), Gold Diggers (195,000).

A FIFA Women’s World Cup match was 192,000 on Seven.

Nine network won Wednesday with 29.6% then Seven 29.3%, ABC 18.1%, 10 14.8% and SBS 8.1%.

Nine News (799,000 / 768,000) was best for Nine. A Current Affair led with 649,000 then Hot Seat 397,000 / 242,000. Footy Classified was 129,000 in 3 cities.

Seven News was #1 at 902,000 / 845,000. The Chase topped entertainment at 540,000 / 340,000. Home & Away was 454,000.

ABC News was 555,000. The Drum (137,000) and Queen of Oz (128,000) followed.

The Project pulled 260,000 / 182,000 for 10. 10 News First was 213,000 / 159,000. So Help Me Todd was just 76,000.

On SBS it was SBS World News (135,000 / 96,000),  Titanic: Genesis of a Giant (76,000), and Mastermind (68,000).

Vera on ABC TV Plus led multichannels at 104,000.

News Breakfast: 104,000 / 49,000

Utopia: 970,000

Riptide: 309,000

  1. It’s been great having Utopia back but something felt a bit off this season. To me it didn’t quite live up to past seasons. But the numbers look good.

  2. Last night’s Utopia was something magic tho. I haven’t laughed so hard at a tv show in a very long time. There were a couple of very low-key but sublime jokes. I’m *very* ready for TGYH next week, but please can we have some more Utopia, soon ™??

  3. With those Utopia figures and the catch up numbers I wouldn’t be surprised if the total tv audience for each ep is nudging 2 million. Working Dog need to be inducted into the hall of fame next year at the Logies. Their hit rate is incredible.
