GoFundMe page for Jess Hill

Fundraiser for journalist and doco presenter Jess Hill passes $22,000 following her brain cancer diagnosis.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for journalist and SBS documentary presenter Jess Hill (Asking for It, See What You Made Me Do), who revealed a brain cancer diagnosis on social media ahead earlier this year.

Friend Isabelle Oderberg has posted the GoFundMe page telling readers, “Hi. Let me introduce you to my friend Jess. She is 40 and this year she has had brain surgery, radiation and five rounds of chemotherapy. Jess has incurable brain cancer and though her life expectancy is ‘pretty good’, it has been a super tough year. You might know Jess from her work writing about Australia’s issues with violence against women. Or the Middle East. Or the environment.

“But my friend Jess is kind, generous, funny and lights up any room with her smile. Jess is a freelance journalist, author, advocate and public speaker and has had long periods without work while she has undergone intensive treatment. She now needs help to pay her bills while she recovers from this round of treatment. As much as I want to cure Jess’ cancer, I can’t.”

She is hoping monies raised for bills, utilities and living costs while her ability to work is impeded will help Jess focus on healing.

An original target of $10,000 has already doubled to over $22,000 in just 5 days.

An SBS spokesperson also told TV Tonight, “Jess has given so much expertise, time and passion exploring domestic abuse and violence. She has inspired positive change and SBS have been so proud to see her work and her impact on SBS and beyond.

“We wish her and her family all the best in these challenging times.”

  1. I feel terrible. Pit of stomach sick. How did I miss this news? I did a CPD course she hosted in the wake of “See”. Brilliant afternoon. I’m not really a “thoughts and prayers” guy, but I hope she beats it.
