Pluto TV to launch in Australia

Free ad-supported channels dedicated to classic TV titles, reality, kids, music and more are coming in August.

Pluto TV will launch in Australia with 50 FAST channels including curated channels screening round the clock MTV Reality, MTV The Shores, Nick Classics And Nick Toons, in addition to legendary titles such as I Love Lucy, Happy Days, Dynasty South Park, and more.

Pluto TV’s FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) channels will be available via a dedicated area on 10 Play from August 31.

Olivier Jollet, Executive Vice President and International General Manager for Pluto TV said: “These 50 Pluto TV channels represent our first step to engage with Australian audiences and we are happy to mark this milestone by partnering with 10 Play, demonstrating once more the strength of our Paramount ecosystem.

“As pioneers in the FAST industry, we are bringing a new and unique user experience through curated channels dedicated to this market. Our mix of local and international content which matches the needs of our local audiences is what makes Pluto TV so valuable for viewers, clients, and partners across the world.”

We cannot wait to offer to our Australian viewers dedicated and curated content for every generation and taste featuring cult classics and global smash hit TV series to entertain devotees and lure new fans.

“This announcement builds on 10 Play’s success in 2023 – the biggest year ever for the platform with minutes viewed up 21% on 2022. It gives 10 Play a unique and strong point of difference in the Australian market that will build on nearly a decade of insights gathered from delivering alternate viewing experiences.”

  1. Seriously? One would have to wade through to the 10Play app just to get to PlutoTV? Ah, I’ll stick to getting it via my VPN from the States….who came up with dumb idea anyway?

  2. This is great but if this is stuck on 10play can they at least update the app to work on Xbox and Playstation. I am deincentivised to watch any of these TV apps because none of them run on console (unlike Netflix, Amazon, Disney et al)

  3. Well this explains why MTV closed without any fanfare – the content is just moving from Foxtel/Fetch to 10Play/Pluto. At this rate there will be that many streamers in this country that there will be nothing left for FTA or STV (Foxtel/Fetch).

  4. Is it really Pluto TV if they are just bundled into 10play and not available via the Pluto app that already exists in all(?) their other markets..? Personally very unlikely to be wading into 10play for this.. but I would (and sometimes do) open a Pluto app..

  5. IMO, Pluto should have its own app/dedicated platform here, just like all other territories. In terms of channel offering, hoping for dedicated ‘Judge Judy’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ channels here, mirroring the US service.

  6. Finally but I would have preferred a separate app rather than having to go through another app like 10play but the main thing is that it is coming

  7. I’m sure the industry will be watching to see if or how this affects ratings on the other channels. It’s even more important than ever before to make quality programming and engage with viewers.

Pluto is good for viewers though, as it will give more variety and choice for free.

  8. I would beso happy f the classic TV shows are Dynasty (I know it says Dynasty coming but I want the original), Dallas, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Falcon Crest and Knots Landing.
Also I’d love an Aussie retro channel. Richmond Hill, E Street, The Box, Number 96, old Aussie Variety Shows and Comedy Company.

    1. Gimme Knots Landing already.
RTE and CBS Drama played it a few times over the years.
I’ve kinda hoped it would’ve appeared somewhere by now.

  9. It would be great if they appeared as channels on internet connected TVs rather than within an app like 10Play, Samsung TV Plus, etc.. The simplicity of flicking through the channels and TV guide would make them more easily visible and accessible.

    1. That’s definitely an issue for television in the modern era. There are all of these sources or apps you have to go through for different channel lists and programs, when they could be listed in the one place conveniently. Fragmentation is an inconvenience, and the last thing the industry needs to be doing is inconveniencing viewers. Could this be a case for Freeview?

    2. I think you will find that they are VOD i.e. you can watch anything, anytime so there wont be a guide for particular shows at particular times.
