US character actor, best known for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has died.

US character actor Mark Margolis, best known for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has died aged 83.

He died on August 4 in hospital in New York City following a short illness.

He played drug kingpin Hector Salamanca on two dramas by Vince Gilligan, playing a menacing figure who communicates by ringing a bell after suffering a stroke -gaining an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

“The fact that he didn’t have any words was not an issue for me,” he once said. “I was delighted not to have to learn any lines. I mean, I had to know what was going on, I had to my cues, but the fact that I didn’t have to master lines was great. I got to fly out to New Mexico and not worry about memorizing anything.”

His other credits included The Equalizer, Santa Barbara, Oz, Prodigal Son, The Blacklist, Snowpiercer, The Affair and six films with director Darren Aronofsky.
