Dougray Scott stars as a flawed detective solving the case of an abducted child in a drama by Trainspotting's Irvine Welsh.

UK series Crime, an adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s (Trainspotting, Filth, Porno) best selling detective novel, is getting a Free to Air screening on SBS next week.

The six-episode series is directed by James Strong (Liar, Broadchurch, Vigil) and David Blair (Isolation Stories, The Barking Murders), and stars Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible 2, Batwoman) as Detective Inspector Ray Lennox, battling personal demons from a child murder case he previously worked on and addiction. When his Serious Crimes unit is tasked with investigating the disappearance of a missing schoolgirl at the hands of the mysterious serial killer Mr Confectioner, Lennox must try to put his own problems aside in his search for the truth and redemption.

The cast also features Joanna Vanderham (Warrior, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) as DS Angela Drummond, Angela Grin (Harlots) as Trudi Lowe, Ken Stott (The Dig, Fortitude, Devils) as Chief Superintendent Bob Toal and Jamie Sives (Guilt, Too Close) as Detective Inspector Dougie Gillman.

Episode One:
The bodies of a French couple are found. Lennox immediately starts to speculate that the MO is similar to the infamous ‘Mr. Confectioner’ cases, but Lennox’s work nemesis, Di Dougie Gillman, takes on the case and is quick to tell Lennox to mind his business.

Thursday, 21 September at 9.20pm on SBS.

  1. ITV put this show on their streaming channel before a late night FTA slot, which isn’t a promising sign. 3 eps stretched to 6 with irrelevant sub plots is becoming the new “normal”. Readers Digest used to publish “condensed” books so perhaps there’s a market for condensed mini-series. One for the PVR with a FF button.

  2. I am pretty sure that Britain has the equivalent of “dark kitchens” where writers all sit together just churning out crime / detective shows, that all pretty much follow the same format for take away consumption.
