Marcia Hines returns as Australian Idol judge

Updated: Marcia Hines, Kyle Sandilands & Amy Shark are confirmed for Seven's 2024 judging panel.

Rumours are true… Marcia Hines is returning as a judge of Australian Idol for 2024.

She joins Kyle Sandilands and Amy Shark on the panel for the returning Seven show.

The original Idol judge was a guest judge last year which was well-received by fans and previously teased a return in a podcast.

It isn’t clear if there will be a fourth judge with Harry Connick Jr. and Meghan Trainor in doubt to return.

Ricki-Lee Coulter and Scott Tweedie return as hosts. Raw auditions have been underway since August.

Filming with audience begins next week in Sydney for the arrival of judges, with an audition later this month at Roslyn Packer Theatre.

Tix are available here.

Seven holds its 2024 Upfronts on October 18.

Update: According to media reports, Meghan Trainor and Harry Connick Jr. are not returning.

  1. Meghan was a waste – all she did was make silly noises and gush over the cute boys or girls outfits! I don’t think one helpful critique came out of her mouth!

  2. I like Marsha and think she is a natural fit for Idol, you can tell she has a lot of experience and she is a genuine person. Amy was good and I love that song ‘High on you’ she performed.
I like listening to Kyle on the radio in the mornings and have for many years, but I’m not sure about him on TV yet, he was funny from time to time when he wasn’t big biting himself, it’s funny to listen to him going on but to see it is another thing, anyway good luck to them all I hope it does well. One bear bug, enough with going on about Ricki Lee missing out and you must vote, she was voted out when she was supposed to be because people thought fourth place was where she belonged in the competition. In saying that, I think Ricki did a great job as host last season, she has become quite good at it now.

    1. Royston will likely be seen on Carols in the Domain before fading into obscurity again. They don’t seem to do much with reality show winners anymore.

  3. They need to go back to an Opera House finale. It really helps to sell the promise and premise of the show. Flipping burgers one day, Opera House the next. That’s what made Idol so special!

    1. Well I will be honest didn’t watch any of Australian Idol. Love Marcia Hines and glad she back on it. How has it failed where the show has been renewed for another season. The rating for it has been better than a lot of Channel 10 reality shows

    2. You’re welcome to continue supporting Married at First Sight, the remainder of us will support the mother of all talent shows.
On a separate note, there was a rumour that Kylie Minogue and Tina Arena were joining the judging panel.

      1. I don’t think it will be either. One has one of the biggest albums of her career to promote, and the other is busy telling us she liked to drive her car beyond toorak…
