Matthew Perry autopsy ‘inconclusive’

Cause of death of Friends star has been deferred, after inconclusive pending toxicology tests.

An autopsy has been completed on te body of Matthew Perry, but it is inconclusive pending toxicology tests, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The cause of death has been “deferred,” and further investigation has been requested before a determination will be made.

Though an official conclusion isn’t likely to be released for several weeks, the medical examiner’s office said the body was ready to be released to the family.

US reports thus far have cited an apparent drowning in a jacuzzi at his home in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. He was 54.

A 911 call came in at 4:07 p.m. local time, according to a law enforcement source. The call was treated as a water rescue.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, Brian Humphrey, said first responders went to a home in Pacific Palisades on Saturday night based on a 911 call responding to a “water emergency.”

Perry had a well-documented history of abusing alcohol and prescription drugs, but it has been reported that no drugs were found at the scene and foul play is not suspected. He detailed that struggle in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.

“Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead,” Perry wrote in the opening of the book.

The book concluded, “When I die, I know people will talk about Friends, Friends, Friends.

“And I’m glad of that, happy I’ve done some solid work as an actor, as well as given people multiple chances to make fun of my struggles on the world wide web.

“But when I die, as far as my so-called accomplishments go, it would be nice if Friends were listed far behind the things I did to try to help other people.

“I know it won’t happen but it would be nice.”

  1. They have done an autopsy and investigation and found all they can. They will be waiting, often for weeks, for toxicology in case something pops up. This is common.

  2. This is very sad..dying so young..yet giving so much joy to the world..what I don’t understand is when someone is in the public eye why people have to put a persons live under the microscope when they die…they are not public property…why can’t people just show some respect and celebrate their life and what they have achieved whether they have had a trouble life or not….what has happened to peoples privacy nowadays when they die?… RIP Matthew and thanks for joy and laughter you gave us🕊️
