Meanwhile NBC moves to Deal or No Deal Island…

Out of the studio and onto the island.... here's how NBC is evolving Deal or No Deal for 2024.

Yesterday 10 announced Grant Denyer as host of a new-look Deal or No Deal for 6pm weeknights in 2024.

However in the USA, NBC is already on track for the next twist in the format, Deal or No Deal Island hosted by Joe Manganiello.

Set on an island the show will transport 13 players to “the elusive Banker’s private island to compete for cash in a season-long, fully immersive competition.”

“The role of Deal or No Deal host has always been held by someone charming, hilarious and devastatingly handsome,” said Corie Henson, executive vice president of unscripted content for NBCUniversal Entertainment.

“When we took the show out of the studio and transported the game to the Banker’s island, Joe was the obvious choice. He loves all kinds of games, lives for adventure and isn’t afraid to stare down a snake or two to help players win a life-changing payday and, hopefully, beat the Banker at his own game.”

According to NBC the Deal or No Deal Island will “combine thrilling challenges, mind-bending dilemmas and the classic game of Deal or No Deal as contestants try to beat the Banker.”

As host, Manganiello’s job is to guide the 13 players throughout the game, “leading the game play, relaying the Banker’s tempting offers and helping them through the toughest decisions of their lives.”

Just like the original version, the new version of the show will feature briefcases containing various cash values.

This time around, the briefcases will be hidden on the island.

In each episode, contestants will try to get their hands on the highest-value briefcase for a chance to gain immunity and choose a fellow player to enter “The Temple,” where they must play a high-stakes game of Deal or No Deal.

The unknown Banker raises the stakes throughout the game using tests of strategy and greed. The last player standing at the end of the season must face the Banker in an effort to win the biggest prize in Deal or No Deal history.

Admittedly, this sounds like a short-run series so it wouldn’t have solved 10’s 6pm problems, and maybe it is something they could embrace as an event series now they have the brand?

Then again, messing with a pure format is risky in itself and viewers often see through the smoke and mirrors.

  1. Grant Denyer is not Larry Emdur, John Burgess, Tony Barber or Jimmy Hannan.

Deal Or No Deal with Grant Denyer will do similar business to Family Feud with Grant Denyer

  2. While I absolutely agree 10 News First as a brand is terrible and they need to shake it up, putting their news and game shows up against 7 and 9 is equally a bad idea. Will Deal or No Deal lift their audience? Can’t be worse than 90mins of news followed by an hour of The Project. But I don’t think it will be the silver bullet they want. Its more likely viewers will dip in at 6 and out at 7, or more likely, in at 6:30 after 30mins on 9 or 10. It won’t boost The Project as that too is a tainted brand.

  3. What 😂 a joke Grant to host our Deal or No Deal for channel 10. It’s not going to work. Plus channel 10 need to change their 10NewsFirst Quick. The brand is misleading. Put the news at 6pm and Deal at 5pm.

    1. Ten did try that once, they got smashed and CBS walked away with the entire business. Ten need to offer viewers alternatives to Seven and Nine if they have any hope of surviving.
