Airdate: The Hunt for the Family Court Killer

4 part doco series begins with the shocking 1977 murder of a Family Court Judge -before others would follow.

Documentary series The Hunt for the Family Court Killer will screen on 10 in December.

The four part series is produced by Easy Tiger and SAM Content.

Examining a case of homegrown terrorism, domestic violence, and the upsurge of conservative men’s rights groups responding to the progressive Family Courts, this powerful and engaging four-part series delves into a chapter of Australian life with chilling contemporary relevance.

Episode one unfolds in 1970s Sydney, where a volatile mix of booming industries and a prevalent criminal underbelly sets the stage for the shocking 1977 murder of Family Court Judge, David Opas, initiating a prolonged and confounding investigation. The narrative takes a dark turn in 1984 when another Family Court Judge, Richard Gee, survives a house bombing, triggering a quest to uncover links between the two incidents.

Through a ‘triple helix’ of perspectives, blending repurposed archive material with dramatic storytelling, the series provides a gripping exploration of the policing, judiciary, and socio-political contexts of the time, unravelling a shocking chapter of Australian social history through the eyes and experiences of those who lived it.

Update: 9:30pm Wednesday December 6 on 10.

  1. Looking at the TV guides (Melbourne at least) it appears that Ten is now showing the 4 episodes at 2 per week on Wednesday & Thursday night @ 21:30:

Unless Ten change their minds again … of course.
