Axed: Studio 10 ending after 10 years

"2500+ episodes is an incredible feat... we're all really proud of being part of it," say Studio 10 hosts as morning show confirms its final episode in December.

Morning television show Studio 10 is ending after a 10 year run on Network 10.

Its final broadcast will air in late December.

A 10 spokesperson said, “Studio 10 has been a great contributor to Network 10’s daytime program lineup. We would like to sincerely thank all those who have participated in and supported the program over the past decade and to the millions of viewers who tuned in over that time.

“It has been a show that has provided copious amounts of feelgood fun, joy, passion, heart, entertainment, and unforgettable moments all against the backdrop of live television.

“Although we are sad to be farewelling the program, the decision to cease production of Studio 10 comes after a change in viewing habits in daytime television. In 2024 there will be a new morning lineup with an increased focus on news and current affairs later in the day.”

10 News First Afternoons will be introduced as a national news bulletin at 3:30pm, adding to 10 News Midday hosted by Narelda Jacobs and a recent announcement of a late night bulletin in 2024.

The morning line-up ito replace the show is understood to comprise Australian content and repeats.

A small number of staff will be impacted but others will be redeployed across 10 News department.

“The hosts of Studio 10 – Angela Bishop, Narelda Jacobs and Tristan MacManus, with special roving reporter Daniel Doody – will remain with the network in different roles and many of the staff will be redeployed.”

Angel Bishop said, “2500+ episodes is an incredible feat, including through a pandemic. It’s an incredible achievement in terms of Australian television. We’re all really proud of being part of it.”

Tristan MacManus added, “We’ve absolutely loved it. We’ve loved spending every single morning with you. It really has been great, at times tough, but always always rewarding. We’ve always been smiling, we’ve always enjoyed spending our mornings with you, and it doesn’t stop now.

“We’re making the announcement now but we’ve still plenty of episodes left before Christmas. So we’ll definitely be going out with a bang, and again trying to bring those smiles and that love to you every morning. We hope you feel it in your living rooms.”

Narelda Jacobs alos posted, “Starting the day with this crew is like a bowl of the most delicious granola. All the healthy bits with a sprinkling of sweetness & a light roasting here & there. Not only is it tasty & easy to digest.. it’s also good for you!

“While farewelling @studio10au & its intelligent & witty brand of morning TV will be hard.. it’s not goodbye from @angelabishop10 @tristanmacmanus @doodydaniel & I.

“I’m looking forward to throwing myself into 2024 on @10newsfirst Midday and again for another hit of news at 3.30pm.

“Now, more than ever, we are all seeking strong journalism. As we face incredibly difficult times here & abroad, news reporting must be of the highest integrity. In 2023, I’ve held myself to that standard & will continue to do so next year.”

Studio 10 launched in November 2013 with hosts Sarah Harris, Ita Buttrose, Joe Hildebrand, Jessica Rowe, the only morning show with a Live studio audience, largely until the pandemic impacted.

Amongst its family of contributing talent were regulars Denise Drysdale, who still appears regularly, the late Jonathan Coleman, Craig Bennett, David Robinson, Denise Scott, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Natarsha Belling, Jess Eva, Scott Tweedie and Jesse Baird.

More recently its numbers have fallen to around 20,000 metro viewers, making its advertorials less lucrative.

Studio 10 recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.

The last episode will air on Friday, December 22.

  1. Sadly not surprised. Every time I hear about the show of late, usually just on TVT, it seems like a shadow of its former self. Far removed from the original vision back in 2013 where it did have a point of difference.

  2. 10 have always been a point of difference, which is attractive. Being the same as your competition is tiresome. I’m definitely no programmer, but perhaps:

    6am CBS This Morning
    7.30am Entertainment Tonight (uncut edit)
    8am Neighbours encore
    8.30am Bold encore
    9am The Talk
10am Encore of reality offering (from previous evening)
11.30am Filler title dependant on runtime of reality encore (e.g. an edited ET or cooking title)
    12pm News
1pm 2 hour telemovie (utilise the M rating during schooldays)
    3pm Cooking
3.30pm News (it will get axed later, so perhaps new ‘Judy Justice’ thereafter)
    4pm Neighbours
    4.30pm Bold
    5pm News

  3. I mean who is shocked. When they moved away from a panel style and went to copycat of 7 and 9 it went down the toilet. Used to really enjoy it back in the day. Nothing beats the circle though those were Tens best morning days!

  4. I’m assuming this will mean a complete overhaul of 10’s daytime schedule. Dr Phil must be about to wrap-up given it ended in May, and Judge Judy has been on replay since it ended in 2021.

  5. Not surprising at all. It was only a matter of time before the advertorials would stop and not fund the program anymore. It started as a show with a real point of difference featuring a panel and studio audience. It’s was fun and should have rated higher. But unfortunately every change 10 made to the program (change format and time slots) reduced ratings. Its format became like the others. But without the quality presenters or guests. 10am start was just a stupid idea. In the end the axing was a no brainer. Why ten do not offer a fairy straight news bulletin (30mins with repeated stories) 7am to 9am is beyond me. Many just want news from overnight. That’s how sunrise started. Would not cost a fortune. They could build an audience on this. Why bother with midday?

  6. I’m a little surprised truth be told, I thought the whole point of these shows was they circumvent the rules of local content. They basically create hours and hours of local content by being nothing more then advertorials and the ratings don’t matter. The same reason those late night games shows used to exist, 15 to 20 hours towards your local content requirements for about a budget of $20. Who actually sits down to watch the same infomercials about funeral insurance and crappy vacuum cleaners every day? The real question is what will be on the TV in doctors waiting rooms?

    1. Good points and that makes a lot of sense to me.

It is often on the wall of my gym and even thought it is muted, I often thought to myself, who would watch this crap. But you explanation answers my question. My only thought is that at some stage ad revenue started to dip below production costs to the point where even the local content benefit was not sufficient to retain it.

Still who really is “watching” TV at this time during the working week and are TV stations really interested in them. I would expect even lower cost and quality local content to replace this show, not that I would be watching.

  7. Morning TV won’t be the same. 😥 😭 I especially liked Jono Coleman’s quizzes. Where will Bold’s Brooke appear now during her Aussie visits? Maybe Angela Bishop can have a bigger role on the soap. Is Denise Scott meant to be listed twice?

  8. I was absolutely shocked when it was in the Upfronts for 2024. Advertorials must have finally been drying up and no wonder with ratings like it’s had.
Neighbours might get a stint at 11am next year.

  9. How will Sam Pang playfully bag Denise Scott out now Studio 10 is gone?

So much for the great showbiz threat… “You’ll be on Studio 10 one day!” Hahahaha.

  10. People can’t say that Ten didn’t give morning TV a good crack…bad as it was…they tried for so long…
I don’t know why Ten has been terrible for so many years, I remember when I was a young’un – they programmed a lot better.

  11. We all knew what happened in 2020 with several presenters leaving S10. After they left, audience numbers went downhill. Sadly, they never rose beyond 100k.
Back in the days, GMA used to rate very high. After GMA’s axing, 9am with David & Kim took over in 2006. Sadly mornings on 10 never recovered after 2006. I still miss GMA more and more with every passing year.

  12. Lack of advertorials willing to pay good money to a smaller, dwindling audience. Didn’t make financial sense for the show to continue.
So producing more news throughout the day and night – is this because it’s cheaper than creating original content?

    1. Certainly cheaper, but is there a thirst for more daytime news from a market already served by 24hr news services on the ABC and Sky? I don’t associate Ten with news at all. When all the other networks are covering a big international story or event live, Ten are usually the ones playing Devil Wears Prada instead. Likewise their election coverages are usually the least watched. I’m not sure more news is the way forward for Ten….

  13. That’s disappointing. I really liked Studio 10. But I think Channel 10 will come up with another morning show because they got to have something on to promote their other shows.

  14. The show was great when it first started. A great team of presenters. But am not surprised its been axed to be honest. Ratings have been very low lately. Even in its revamped 2 hour edition.
