Bay of Fires, Mother & Son new seasons in development

Two ABC shows are in the pipeline hopefully for 2025.

Two key ABC shows not confirmed as returning at ABC’s Upfront were Bay of Fires and Mother & Son.

However each is heading into a second season development.

Chief Content Officer Chris Oliver-Taylor said of Mother & Son, “The numbers were okay, I think we would have liked a bit more, but this is one of the most iconic ABC shows of all time. I want the show to have the respect it deserves and see if we can find an audience across two series. Now, whether it will finance or whether it will creatively develop, I don’t know.

“But we want to at least give it the best shot, potentially for 2025, but not 2024.”

Bay of Fires is also expecting a second season, if not yet formally renewed.

Bay of Fires is our most successful Aussie drama of the year, we are committed to series 2 and as long as our financial partners are able to support the show, then we hope to bring Bay of Fires to Australian audiences in early ’25,” he added.

Star and co-creator Marta Dusseldorp is currently in production on SA film With or Without You by writer / director Kelly Schilling.

  1. Bay of Fires blitzed in Total TV numbers (huge take up in BVOD), much better than the Newsreader S2 and this was confirmed last week with a S3. So surely then Bays will get up for a second run.

  2. Mother & Son is an important show. I didn’t realise the value until seeing my parents, school teachers, some celebrities and prominent people become old.

  3. Great to read that Mother & Son will be renewed, even if it will be an 18 month wait. Much to my surprise it stood on its own and there was nice chemistry between Denise and Matt.
