Alan Jones denies sexual assault allegations, begins defamation procedures

Nine newspapers alleged broadcaster indecently assaulted four young men during his time at radio 2GB.

Former SKY News presenter Alan Jones has denied allegations published by Nine newspapers, which alleged he indecently assaulted four young men during his time at radio 2GB.

ABC reports lawyers acting on behalf of the former radio broadcaster say they are taking the “first step” in commencing defamation proceedings against Nine and investigative journalist Kate McClymont.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the men came forward with claims the radio titan had used his position of power to prey on men allegedly indecently assaulting them by groping or kissing them.

“The allegations against Alan Jones by Kate McClymont published today in the Nine newspapers are demonstrably false,” the statement released by Mark O’Brien Legal on behalf of Jones read.

“In the short time available since publication we have obtained substantial factual information which contradicts and refutes the alleged pattern of conduct by Mr Jones.

“We have retained Senior Counsel and have instructions to immediately serve a Concerns Notice under Section 12A of the Defamation Act as the first step in the commencement of defamation proceedings.

“There will be no further comment by or on behalf of Mr Jones.”

Long-term 2GB colleague Ray Hadley revealed yesterday he knew one of the alleged victims, had previously worked on Alan Jones’s show, divulged details of his experience with the broadcaster and swore him to secrecy.

“I sat silently as he went through the allegations … interrupted only by his tears as he tried to compose himself. It was a very emotional conversation for both of us,” Hadley said.

“The behaviour he was alleging was unwanted sexual advances.”

Jones hosted his self-titled talk show on SKY News which was axed in 2021, having had 8 years with the broadcaster.
