New Tracy Grimshaw project to be revealed

Tracy's next show to be announced in January.

Nine will announce Tracy Grimshaw’s return to television next month.

The project under wraps will be confirmed at a Nine event in Melbourne on January 19 along with two new reporters for 60 Minutes.

This follows Tom Steinfort’s return to Melbourne to co-host the 6pm news with Alicia Loxley.

Tracy Grimshaw departed A Current Affair in November 22 after 17 years, but indicated she hoped to return to television after a break.

Hopefully the new series will draw upon her unrivalled interviewing skills, potentially in a long-form show with politicians, celebrities, newsmakers in Australia and around the world.

As a random suggestion I might also throw in the idea of a return to Sunday, famously fronted by Jim Waley on Nine, which might work as a possible vehicle for Grimshaw, given much of that audience is going to Insiders at present….

I don’t envisage any hope of a return to Midday, given the expense and that talent usually prefers to move forward rather than backwards.

My money is on a primetime interview format of some sort.

  1. The Sunday idea is good. Anything prime time once the gloss wears off won’t last long. One Plus One had some maxing hosts with great interviewing styles, some surprising and it still didn’t light the ratings on fire.
I’ll actually be surprised if it’s not just 60 minutes which would be a perfect fit in my opinion.

  2. I do miss Sunday, particularly with Jim Waley. Insiders needs more competition. But sadly, Nine’s mornings is a bit crowded, with Weekend Today, Sports Sunday and The Sunday Footy Show.

A simple one-on-one interview show would be nice too. In the style of Enough Rope with Andrew Denton. In other words, a simple interview show with no gimmicks.

  3. An hour long interview program per week, Tracy interviewing a famous personality – politician or celebrity or sporting star or community worker, that’d work well I think.

  4. I like the Sunday idea. Insiders is just not the same with out Barry Cassidy so a Tracy version of Sunday would be so watchable. Nine really need to get back into serious Current affairs as it boost their News brand as well.

  5. Could it be that Nine has bought back the rights to This Is your life?
It’s bizzare the remaining episodes on the 7 version haven’t aired and we haven’t heard a peep about it….

  6. Whenever a commercial network does an interview show they seem to need to overplan and fill it with gimmicky segments. Just keep it simple and let the interview speak for itself. A talented interviewer should be capable of pulling that off.

  7. Something like the ABC’s One Plus One but for an hour long?

Perhaps titled: One on One with Tracy Grimshaw

Either way, her hard-hitting interviews and general screen presence have been missed this past year. Same goes for Leigh Sales.
