Studio 10 celebrates 60 years of showbiz for Denise Drysdale

'Ding Dong' reflects on getting fired from Nine, playing pranks on Ernie Sigley, and a prison stunt which backfired.

Just days before its final show, Studio 10 yesterday took time to reflect on Denise Drysdale’s 60 remarkable years in showbiz.

In the wide ranging interview she talks about her long friendship with Patti Newton, getting fired from Channel Nine for putting on weight, playing pranks on Ernie Sigley, a low point in her career when she was criticised in the press for a stunt at a prison and how she would tell her younger self not to worry about her weight.

This also prompted host Angela Bishop to call for Denise to be inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame.

Denise Drysdale turned 75 earlier this month.

  1. I liked studio 10 units early days and I have no idea how Denise could be popular…. If there was someone my age that displayed that kind of behavior on television I’d be appalled.

  2. … I remember my wife and I having an hysterically funny dinner with Ding Dong and Bernard King in 1983 after they were judges on The Gong Show on WIN TV … geez, that was forty years ago …

  3. Denise is a delight! I can’t believe Studio 10 will be ending on Friday! Though the guide in TV Week still has it running over Christmas as well as Project.

  4. What a great interview and clips! Not shocked no Hey Hey mention!!! Am shocked she’s not in hall of fame. She’s done it all and more than deserves her place in there!!!
