Total reach… Seriously its sooo terrible. It takes only 15sec to watch program and be included in “reach”….so programs tjat long like Sunrise and Today will have huge total reach….
Breakfast shows are probably the area where Reach is better reflective of their audience because they are drop in / drop out. People often ask “Why are Breakfast shows so important if their numbers are so low?”
It does provide a window into audience retention — 700,000 people watched a minute or two of Australian Crime Stories before turning off apparently. I assume MAFS was the lead-in, but still
Your Ratings Post David looks better, easier to see now, Thank You.
But don’t like this Ratings System by OzTam Crazy!!
Ok if they really want to have the Total TV Reach etc.. why can’t they still have the 5 City Metro Numbers as an Extra Data below? Why so dumb!
And how the Hell are we supposed to know who Won the Night and by how much in the Percentage Shares!? Come On OzTam think..
Appreciate someone acknowledging the improved display, considering the criticism yesterday. I didn’t like it either, but once I can see what I am working with a solution in sight.
are the ratings as per city something that oztam doesn’t track anymore or just is not divulging?except maybe to the networks?
Correct.
k..so …not divulging.last question and i’ll leave you alone(these changes must be like a right to the jaw for you..lol)does anyone except the networks and oztam know how much oztam charges the networks for the info and has it gone up under the new setup?you figure it must be a pretty substantial amt. considering ad revenue is based on it.
OzTAM is owned by Seven, Nine and 10.
nvm..i read that the 3 big networks own it…shudda read before posting…sorry
They are giving us Total National Figures for 30 shows, across all the demographics, so that’s good. It will stop David being asked for the ratings of shows 21-30. Will miss the locational quirks and surprise numbers on secondary channels though.
Networks, media buyers and advertisers will get everything. It just what people can talk about they are trying to control.
That’s one thing I don’t mind, as before all we got was the Top 5 in the Demo breakdowns, again sure it’s National rather than Metro, but still that is an improvement over the old Top 5. Also with the surprise numbers on secondary channels, that will be something I miss as well, we probably won’t know that such and such a show got the highest ever on one of those.
Hey Dave, I know you may have touched on this,
But in terms of network share and city viewership, are these no longer reported as such or is this data only limited to certain bodies?
And how do we the public know whom “won” the night, week, year etc?
Still working my head around it all.
https://tvtonight.com.au/2024/01/the-biggest-change-to-tv-ratings-in-20-years-is-coming-heres-why.html
“And how do we the public know whom “won” the night, week, year etc?”
Only way is by the Nat. Commercial share Chart at the bottom, granted there’s no ABC or SBS or each Multi-Channel (so it’s only the combined one), plus before that percentage figure was for Metro only, however at least we can see who wins Nationally.
It kind of protects 10 I guess more than anyone in that form as we now don’t see if the the ABC beats 10 or not, SBS would be interesting to see any growth/attrition but I guess outside of the World Cup and maybe Eurovision it never challenged the other four.
Not ideal for those of us who follow it, however thems the breaks I guess.
I would like to know how they know the age of watchers, to be able to give ratings for different age groups.
Ratings are always based on a large panel of participants which statistically represents us all. You can read more here.
Must have missed that, thank you!
Thanks. Wanted to ask them a different question not answered, but their contact us doesn’t appear to be able to do that. Links come up with pre-decided boxes. Oh well.
Why the overlay in age groups? People 25-54 and People 16-39? Why not have:
People 16-39
People 40-54
People 55-100
A question for advertisers, but the theory is younger people are not as rusted on with brands and have more disposable income than older. So advertisers prefer to target under 55.
Exactly that was going to be my question on the link David provided. Why stop at 54? Why don’t they take in what older people watch, at least too 70. It seems we don’t count. David mentioned income, not sure how that makes any difference.
So are you yourself saying people over 70 don’t count? Lol
Oh Wow – Tipping Point! We all knew MAFS would dominate but Nine’s move from HotSeat to Tipping Point looks like it will pay off.
Not really. The Chase won the average viewers by around 160k. The reach is just people watching for min 1 minute. That could be people just checking it out.
In preliminary ratings – Tipping Point just beat The Chase (In 5 City Metro) for Tuesday’s show, not just Total Reach…which I am sure it will come out @11:35+…..reign is over.
I was really disappointed with the “world first” gimmick of The Chase last night.
All it entailed was having two Chasers swap in between rounds, with contestants free to choose between them for the final round. The option to take on both for an even bigger sum of money would have at least made the concept worthwhile, even if contestants would generally be reluctant.
It’s basically just the same old format, but now we have two chasers appear per episode (and Matt looked so awkward standing behind Issa with nothing to do in the final).
With that said, I still prefer The Chase (I switched to Tipping Point during breaks, but it’s so tedious sitting through those token drops, and I eventually switched to L&N on SBS), and I think TP’s novelty will wear thin fast. It’s also rather sad that Nine have basically gone from “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” to Who Wants $20,000? Even game shows are neglecting to offer any respite from the ridiculous costs of living nowadays.
