Call for Entries: 2024 Netflix Photography Bootcamp

Learn the art of stills behind the scenes, and soon a video bootcamp from Netflix.

Netflix today announced applications have opened for the 2024 Netflix Photography Bootcamp with a Video Bootcamp to open applications soon.

2024 Netflix Photography Bootcamp

The 2024 Photography Bootcamp will take place from April 11-12 in Melbourne and feature panel discussions with Netflix executives from Australia and Asia-Pacific (APAC), alongside a comprehensive masterclass led by acclaimed Australian stills photographer Ben King. The two-day workshop will offer insight into the inner-workings of productions in Australia and across the world.

Ben King, stills photographer and 2024 Netflix Photography Bootcamp session holder, said: “The bootcamp program is a streamlined experience for young photographers that exposes them to the heart of the filmmaking process. I had the pleasure of mentoring Amanda Gooch for Apple Cider Vinegar. Rather than gradual integration, the program allows talented and affable shooters like Amanda to get right in there from the outset, and to back right off at the critical times. Understanding the rhythm and timing of a film set and where photographers are positioned within that environment takes a while, and being mentored by more senior shooters helps the participants to avoid any interactions with cast and crew which could potentially discourage someone from pursuing a career in set photography. I look forward to sharing some of the techniques that I have developed over the years with the participants in the upcoming masterclass.”

Applications for the Photography Bootcamp are open until Wednesday, 27th March.

2024 Video Bootcamp

Open to emerging Australian creatives, the initiative will select up to 10 photographers and 10 videographers to participate in an intensive two-day training program – learning from industry leaders, building networks and developing the technical skills required to service the growing local film and television industry.

The 2024 Video Bootcamp will equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to tell the story behind the story. This includes exploring best practice for capturing behind the scenes video content as an essential part of the production process for a film or series. The program will take place from 6-7 May in Sydney.

Both programs will introduce participants to local industry professionals who can ensure these emerging creatives have all the tools needed to succeed on set as film and television production continues to increase in the region.

Today’s announcement marks the second year of the annual Netflix Bootcamp initiative in Australia. Participants in last year’s program included Ben Thomas Bayliss and Amanda Gooch, who have since gone on to work on the sets of upcoming Australian Netflix Series Desert King and Apple Cider Vinegar.

Applications for the 2024 Netflix Photography Bootcamp are now open and close Wednesday, 27th March.
