In between his hectic schedule, Adam Liaw finds time to run a production company too

"I've been doing this for a pretty long time now," says SBS chef who produces content for SBS, Nine and Foxtel.

When he isn’t hosting The Cook Up on SBS, presenting Live festival shows, juggling podcasts, cookbooks, speaking engagements and sitting on various Boards, Adam Liaw is also busy running his production company, i8 Studio.

“I work with Josh Martin, who was formerly the Commissioning Editor at SBS and Melita Hodge, our production executive. We produce a few shows, The Good Food Kitchen for Nine, Luxury Escapes for Foxtel. We did Inside the AACTAs Studio for Foxtel last year and a few others that are in production the moment,” he tells TV Tonight.

“I mean, I’ve been doing this for a pretty long time now. So we’ve got a fair bit of experience. It’s not like we just decided to start off from scratch. I’ve been making shows now for 14-15 years.

“And even before that I was working as Head of Legal for Disney Interactive for Asia Pacific.”

Meanwhile The Cook Up continues on SBS Food as a welcoming “chop and chat” series where Liaw learns more about his guests while they are cooking.

“Obviously we have really great producers. We do a lot of research so it’s not just ‘Hey, tell me about yourself’ kind of thing. We do know a lot about our guests before they get into the kitchen.

“I work with our writers on our intros but it’s not a structured conversation. If something comes up that’s interesting, we have the latitude to follow that and that’s what makes the show really great. It is genuinely like coming around to somebody’s house for dinner, where you get to know the people a bit better.”

The Cook Up with Adam Liaw screens 7pm weeknights on SBS Food.
