Swift Street to compete in Canneseries

Debut series created by filmmaker Tig Terera, coming to SBS, will have its world premiere in Cannes.

Upcoming SBS local drama Swift Street will have its World Premiere in competition at the Cannes International Television Series Festival.

The 8 x 30-minute series by Magpie Pictures has been selected in the short form category at Canneseries, to be held from April 5 – 10.

Swift Street is a fast, dynamic, and cinematic crime-family drama, a debut series created by Tig Terera starring Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things) and Cliff Curtis (Avatar) as daughter and father partners in crime.

“CanneSeries celebrates series from all over the world in the city of Cannes and its magical Palais des Festivals. This festival is creative, cool and joyful. It’s perfectly aligned with the energy and heart of Swift Street, and with everything we think audiences will love about the series,” said producers Lois Randall and Ivy Mak.

“We look forward to celebrating on the famous Canneseries pink carpet!”

“Thank you so much to Magpie Pictures, SBS, Screen Australia, Fifth Season, VicScreen, Screen NSW, and to Canneseries for selecting Swift Street for competition,” said Tig Terera.

“From the modest roots of Melbourne’s northern suburbs, premiering Swift Street at CanneSeries is a dream come true. A heartfelt ‘WooHoo’ and endless thanks to everyone involved. Together we’ve turned a dream into a reality.”

SBS Head of Scripted, Julie Eckersley, said: “Swift Street is a series that stands out in a crowd. We are thrilled that it will be showcased at CanneSeries and can’t wait to share it with audiences here in Australia very soon.”

The recognition follows on from SBS Digital Originals series Appetite competing in the Short Form Competition at Canneseries 2023.

“We’re proud that SBS continues to lead the charge in amplifying the voices of new creative talent that resonate both locally and globally,” said Eckersley.
