Airdate: This is Going to be Big

ABC doco about the staging of a John Farnham musical could well be one of the gems of 2024...

Award-winning documentary This Is Going To Be Big will premiere on ABC later this month.

Screening as a two-part documentary series the doco follows teenagers living with disabilities: Chelsea, Elyse, Halle and Josh confronting personal challenges as they prepare for a high school musical based on the life of John Farnham.

Directed by Thomas Charles Hyland, This Is Going To Be Big gained unprecedented access to Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School (SMRSS) at Bullengarook, Victoria, filming the classroom, lunchbreaks, auditions, rehearsals and performances of the school’s biennial musical production.

The big screen version recently won Best Feature Documentary at the Australian International Documentary Conference Awards.

This Is Going To Be Big is not a documentary series focusing on disabilities and differences, rather a life-affirming and tenderly humorous insight into young adulthood, with universal themes of love, friendship, belonging and self-acceptance.

This Is Going To Be Big is a Fremantle Australia and Truce Films production, made inclusively with the support of Bus Stop Films for the ABC.
