Deal or No Deal applications break Endemol game show record

Producers have been swamped with entries hoping for their chance at winning big on 10 game show.

Grant Denyer-hosted game show Deal or No Deal has been winning over Aussies hoping for their chance at big bucks.

Margaret Bashfield, Supervising Executive Producer, Endemol Shine Australia told TV Tonight, “We have been swamped with a record number of applicants, so far we’ve received over 42,000 applications for Deal Or No Deal, which is more than we’ve ever received for any other game show.

“Watching Grant Denyer go full-Grant really is a bucket list moment for many, it’s a guaranteed good time here in the studio.”

A recent 10Play contest with $100,000 in prizes drew over 80,000 entries and awarded a major prize of $50,000 to South Australian Nigel Kibble.

  1. I feel so blessed. I was fortunate to be chosen and recorded my show in ep 12. Grant and all the crew were absolutely amazing and supportive from day 1.Love this show 🙂🙏

    1. “ … it is great viewing at 6:pm Weekdays on Network 10” – Norman, oddy specific / detailed. Any chance you’re a network 10 employee?

  2. I’ve been enjoying Deal back on our screens, big fan of the OG with AOK (ah, 2000s FTA, those were the days!) While I’m pleased to see it slowly climbing in the rankings and especially younger viewers and clearly striking a chord online… Is it really ‘doing well’ in the ratings? Hovering on a total average around 300k or less, lower than its lead-out and miles behind Chase and TP’s million+ reach and 600k+ averages. For 6pm prime time, wouldn’t it have been far cheaper just to keep extended news or start Project early? 10 and their sponsors clearly must be seeing something we’re not, I’d guess certain demographics must be pleasing them vs Seven News, Nine News, Antiques Roadshow and Mastermind (which are all heavily Total People and Over 55s bar the latter show).

  3. Those 42, 000 are going to be very disappointed when they don’t get picked. I mean obviously there is one contestant per audience. Not good odds. Even with the Price is Right I think there were 6-7 per show. I really wish someone would bring that back! The problem with Deal is it is so repetitive you know it’s going to go to the last minute of the contestant saying no deal! How many times can people watch that?

    1. I think even in the predictability of the format (in that the offers are staggered to basically encourage the player to play on until the final few cases), it’s just fun vibes.

It’s the most strenuous show to watch obviously not (I do love some of the quiz shows too) – but is it something you can pop on at the end of the day, play along with while folding laundry or something and just hang out with Grant and the contestant who could win decent money.

  4. I went to a show taping and it was a lot of fun. The whole background crew made the day enjoyable and Grant was great with the contestants and audience. Watching the show is becoming compulsory viewing at home as the little and big kids enjoy yelling Deal or No Deal at the TV. I wonder how it would have rated if it was on the 5:30pm timeslot against The Chase and Tipping Point? Maybe 10 can do an offshoot 1 hour celebrity version at primetime (Fri or Sat) against the football codes?

    1. They did that with All Star Family Feud…I don’t recall it performing very well, and probably contributed to the eventual demise of the show due to oversaturation.

  5. Grant is great…..however, I have a theory that David likes to highlight the slightly ‘off’ photos of hosts. Maybe it’s a way to differentiate or individualise the piece, it is just funny when you use ppl about to talk or looking slightly off. (Tongue is in my cheek)

    1. It’s often surprising to me the way readers interpret simple copy, but I’m happy to respond to that. 10 media site has about 2 or 3 DoND photos, most of which I have used. I looked at the DoND Facebook site and their photos were all montages. So I was forced to take a screenshot from a video and find a single shot of Grant. I actually go to a lot of trouble, but not for the outcome you’re suggesting sorry.

    2. David always finds the prefect pics. Told him as much last week (The 1% Club rating #1). DOND is possibly the only game show where you don’t have to know “What is 2+2?” to win something, unlike The Chase where you have to know a lot but still usually end up with nothing.

  6. Despite the OTT promo initially, this new iteration of Deal or No Deal has been a lot of fun and brings back an element of fun that was sorely missing from Ten’s 6pm timeslot. I hope it continues because it’s a bet that has paid off in my view.
