  1. Hello! I noticed that the figure you reported in the general ratings article (2.29m) was listed in the second column. Can you explain what the three columns with different figures mean, which one is which, for non-Australian viewers who are interested in Bluey’s viewing figures? Thank you!

    1. Yes apologies the columns are not headlined, which I have raised with OzTAM for the assets they send me. Column 1 is Reach: total number of viewers who have seen 1 minute or more. Column 2 is National TV Audience an average of the episode/s (metro + regional + BVOD). Column 3 is BVOD broken out….. most of the industry considers Column 2 a best representation of the viewing audience.

  2. Seriously this Ratings System is Crap!
Commercial Networks/Oztam Bring Back the Original Ratings we had before!
This is So Stupid.. Absolutely Terrible.

  3. I am beyond thrilled – ecstatic with the return of Call the Midwife – and us Finally getting s12 ep 1 — and the ratings prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that our Aussie fans are also ecstatic. Overall rated 7; with 1,341,viewers; then 24 with those 25-54; 197,000, then 28, with those 16-39.garnering 66,000. Outstanding effort for the return and also Season 12, (which we’ve been waiting on for 6-9 months), ie on free to air tv. There are quite a few fans on the main discussion Facebook page, of which I am a member, which is UK/US, and world wide viewers as well. Thank you to all the viewers/fans who watched the return. US is now watching s13. S14 starts filming in 2 weeks. (Midwife also beat Vera to boot).

  4. For Bluey, the Audience figure is higher than the Reach. I would not have thought that was possible. David, can you or OzTAM explain this?

National TV Reach is total unique audience exposed to a program, of at least one minute (broadcast TV) and / or 15 seconds (BVOD) of the program.
National TV Audience is the combined average for both linear TV and BVOD (in this case, iview) across both metro and regional markets.
    Source: https://tvtonight.com.au/2024/02/reach-versus-audience-the-case-for-against.html

    1. From what I understand the average includes libe tv watching + Live stream & catch up BVOD while the reach might not include the catch up BVOD and only includes live stream (not sure)

But since the average was 2.288mil & BVOD was 0.787mill, the average without BVOD is 1.501mill and that’s lower than the reach. And if the live streaming BVOD was say 200k, that’s 1.7mill and lower than the reach of 1.9mill

Could be wrong but that’s what I think

      1. I appreciate your response David. So, based on your reasonable guess, the Reach for a programme is only once but the Audience can be counted more than once. Go figure! This new ratings system really is laughable and cannot be taken seriously. The sooner OzTAM admits this ratings system is deeply flawed and it decides to increase the ridiculous minimal time set for ‘Reach’, the better it would be for everyone.

        1. If you recall in the past when a network accidentally forgets to code a second show as ‘encore’ or similar the number that is published is an average of the two, and it disadvantages one broadcast. I think the same has happened here. I think the 2.29m is actually an average of both broadcasts and the morning premiere was probably far higher. So it would be no change to previous methodology.

          1. Thanks David. It does raise an interesting question as to whether the ABC should have coded the two Bluey screenings separately, and if so, would the BVOD figure have been split evenly? Or if they deliberately chose just the one code in order to boost the result. Because that hasn’t happened at all in the past (said no one). Cheers.

          2. Previously where we had multi channel numbers separated it didn’t matter so much if the coding was not separate. It sorta makes me think some shows such as News Breakfast, possibly Q+A, are being under reported. Hard to know…
