  1. Working Dog (The Cheap Seats, HYBPA?, Thank God..) and ABC (Hard Quiz) all show that shows can be successful without the need for $M sets,
costly location shooting, etc. I don’t know how an episode of The Cheap Seats compares, dollar-wise, to say, an episode of The Masked Singer, MasterChef etc. but clearly 10 is trying to cut costs. What to replace shows with, especially since Working Dog shows are short runs? Perhaps look at program schedules of decades past or Google 6 Classic Game Shows Making a Comeback

    1. “especially since Working Dog shows are short runs”. Not sure what your definition is of short?
Cheap Seats is weekly from April to November. This is the third season
HYBPA? is weekly from May to November. At least ten seasons.

    2. Not all working dog productions are short runs – the cheap seats usually runs from now to mid November and HYBPA almost as long. But agree they’re relatively inexpensive one would think. Plus, although sufficiently different shows, TCS and HYBPA are some what similar I would guess there are economies of scale with content makers (“researchers”, compilation / editors etc) which straddle both shows. Am a big fan of both.

    3. The Cheap Seats is made from what is left over from HYBA? and of course the gold mine that is regional TV. And Mel did mention signing up for Newstart isn’t easy, so I’d guess a lot cheaper. All those shows are simple formulas that rely on the creativity and availability of Australian comedians. Consumer spending is falling, so is advertising revenue and Paramount+’s ownership is up in the air. Clearly 10 aren’t committing to new productions at the moment.

  2. While Lego Masters lost to Farmer in total viewers I think Nine will want to keep it on air next year due to the fact it won all the time in viewers ages under 55
