American Idol has been renewed for a 23rd season, but Katy Perry is departing as judge after six seasons.

Perry has featured alongside Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and host / producer Ryan Seacrest.

The series screens in Australia on 7plus, having returned to screens after a 4 year absence.

The current season is down to the Top 7 performers.
