Stranger Things stage play releases promo

West End stage play serves as a prequel to hit Netflix series, and comes with the backing of streaming platform.

In a move that is either very meta, or very financial, Netflix has released a very cinematic trailer for West End stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

The play serves as an origin story of Henry Creel, a new kid in town who later goes on to become Vecna, the villain introduced in Stranger Things Season 4.

The stage play based will extend its run on London’s West End into 2025. An unrelated Stranger Sings musical was staged in Melbourne as an independent production in 2022, as well as London and Off-Broadway.

It isn’t clear if Netflix will screen the stage play at a later date.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow was written by Kate Trefry from a story by Trefry, original series creators Ross and Matt Duffer, and Jack Thorne. Stephen Daldry serves as director, with co-director Justin Martin. The Duffers act as creative producers, with 21 Laps Entertainment as associate producer. The play hails from Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions.
