Fam Time sitcom to (finally) screen on 7Plus

For 5 years the Seven boss did not want this local sitcom to screen -now it will finally see the light of day.

EXCLUSIVE:

It’s the comedy the last CEO didn’t want to screen, but Seven has finally committed to screening Aussie sitcom Fam Time, after 5 years of it languishing on the programming shelf.

The comedy stars Michala Banas (Winners & Losers, Always Greener), Benson Jack Anthony (800 Words), Karina Banno (Barons) and Duncan Fellows (We Interrupt This Broadcast, The Let Down) and features showbiz doyenne Rhonda Burchmore (I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here).

They star as a family addicted to mummy blogs, social media, internet fame, gaming, and screens…. (yikes, how much has that dated?).

It was announced in 2019 when Tim Worner was CEO at Seven and creator Michael Horrocks was Head of Comedy, produced by Seven Studios.

But when management changed and Horrocks departed, new boss James Warburton was not a fan of the comedy he inherited, with chatter he would not let it screen.

For five years the series sat on the shelf, leaving the cast bamboozled by the reluctance to run it.

Rhonda Burchmore recently told TV Tonight, “I have no idea. I was so excited to do that with the lovely Michala Banas and it was all set to go. It’s like the biggest mystery in the world. Whatever happened to it? I don’t know.”

Now under new CEO Jeff Howard, and Angus Ross Group MD, Seven Television, viewers will be able to judge for themselves.

  1. Fam Time will join other shows that are not screening but available for streamed viewing where broadcast regulations may not apply, a subtle difference. Given that 7Plus doesn’t release individual viewing figures to us, it could be a hit or a flop.

  2. Amazing this has not seen the light of day! Must have been buried deep as I can’t recall reading about this one David.

It will be funny if this actually rates – Seven will be red faced for waiting so long…wait that’s the colour of their corporate logo ahaha.

  3. To think that, of all things, the fact that Burchmore’s character probably won’t be blogging on TikTok is what’s going to date this show. 😅

    1. I’d probably say “Fam Time” is likely to become the “Us and Them” (Channel Nine sitcom from 1995 that didn’t make it on-screen until Summer 1998-99) of the 21st century: Almost completely forgotten.
