Call for Entries: SPA: Ones to Watch 2024

Annual mentoring initiative for emerging producers is open for applications.

Screen Producers Australia has opened applications for its professional development and mentoring program, Ones To Watch 2024.

Selected participants will be individually matched with an experienced mentor, granted exclusive access to a six-month webinar series and the opportunity to secure a $20,000 Ones To Watch Screen Placement, won by Amy Parry (pictured) in 2023.

“Over the years, our Ones To Watch program has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of Australia’s screen industry. As we open applications for 2024, we are thrilled to continue providing this invaluable platform that equips producers with the skills and networks necessary to thrive in our competitive, fast-paced industry. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of visionary producers and supporting them on their journey to success,” said SPA CEO Matthew Deaner.

Screen Australia COO Grainne Brunsdon said, “This program has a strong track record in elevating the careers of emerging producers and providing hands-on experience to help them succeed in our global industry. I encourage producers looking to expand their skills to apply and capitalise on this opportunity.”

Since 2013, past participants have made waves both locally and internationally. Most recently, Alexandra Doering (2023) completed production on Last King of The Cross season 2 with Helium Pictures, while Nara Wilson (2023) recently attended the Cannes Marche Du Film as part of a South Australian delegation.

In 2023 Rachel Higgins (2019) produced Ivan Sen’s latest feature film, Limbo starring Simon Baker and Bethany Bruce (2022) secured financing for her first feature production during her time as a Ones To Watch program participant.

Liam Heyen (2021) is currently in production in Amsterdam on feature film Jimpa, starring Olivia Colman & John Lithgow and directed by Sophie Hyde with Cyna Strachan (2022) co-producing. Hannah Ngo (2021) and Liam Heyen (2021) were producers on Latecomers, which premiered on SBS VICELAND and SBS On Demand in 2022 as part of SBS, NITV and Screen Australia’s Digital Originals initiative. Joshua Longhurst (2020) is a development executive at See-Saw Australia / I Am That, working alongside Emile Sherman and Samantha Lang.
