Charli quits Hi-5

Hi-5′s Charli Delaney is leaving the popular Nine kid’s troupe after ten years.

Delaney (centre) yesterday told news.com.au “I kind of need to de-Hi-5 myself.

“I have been this character for the past 10 years.

“At 18 to be swept into the whirlwind that Hi-5 became… it’s been not only a wonderful experience but an educational one.

“But I got to the point where I realised it wasn’t challenging enough for me anymore.

Delaney wants to prove herself as an actress for an adult audience. She is considering enrolling in some courses at NIDA to hone her acting skills.

While she wouldn’t turn down another TV presenting gig, she said she would like to work in film or television and would consider moving to Hollywood down the track.

Delaney also said she will help Hi-5 creator and executive producer Helena Harris find a replacement.

She said they were looking for a “girl next-door with an added sparkle”. “Maybe one day in a few years I’ll be taking my kids to see the show,” she said.

“I’m going to miss walking along the street and having children walk up and hug me.”

Only two original members Nathan Foley and Kellie Hoggart remain.

Kathleen de Leon Jones was replaced by Sun Park last year when she left to have a baby, while Tim Harding was replaced by Stevie Nicholson after he was injured in a motorcycle accident.

  1. I have just heard yesterday about Charli’s decision to call it a day at Hi-5. In a way I am a bit shocked, but in another way I am not surprised. Charli knew in her own heart that her time there was up long before this finally came about. As a person who has had the wonderful privilege of actually bumping into Charli, Tim and Kathleen a few times while they were touring Melbourne, I can really feel how Charli must be wondering in her own heart about how she could do more to expand her own reach in the broader family audience market.

I realise that she has a wonderful ambitious plan to focus on an adult/youth drama career, but, with the right song and marketing and, of course, the best instrumental training, I feel Charli could also make it as a solo children’s country or Avril-type children’s rock music artist. The Australian children’s music scene is currently lacking such a prominent female solo artist and Charli could fill that gap. I think she – and Tim and Kathleen – are the 3 most ‘real’ out of the Australian Hi-5 bunch and people saw that from the programme. People warmed to her.

    Good luck, Charli.

  2. She wants to work as an adult actress, all i can say to that is
Bow Chika Wow Wow where do i buy the dvd 😛

All joking aside, i can’t believe its been 10 years since she started, good on her, it isn’t easy to leave a cash cow for the unknown.
