TEN’s ratings week burnt by Seven win

After breaking records with an audience of almost 4 million for the MasterChef finale, Week 31 was really TEN’s to lose. In the end it was beaten by both Seven and Nine in Total People.

The Seven Network won with 27.3% to Nine’s 26.3% and TEN’s 23.9%. The ABC had 17.2% and SBS 5.3%.

In primary channels Seven was 23.6, TEN 22.5, Nine 22.3, ABC1 15.0 and SBS ONE 4.7.

In digital channels GO! was 4.0, 7TWO 3.7, ABC2 1.6, ONE 1.4, ABC3 and SBS TWO both on 0.6 (ABC News 24 will be added from tomorrow).

Network TEN won 16 -39 and 18-49 shares but the Nine Network won 25-54.

Seven was also first in all cities except Melbourne, which fell to Nine. TEN managed second in both Melbourne and Perth.

Seven won Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Nine won Wednesday and Thursday. TEN dominated Sunday. ABC had a huge share on Wednesday with its three-straight wins from Spicks and Specks, Gruen Nation and Yes We Canberra! almost taking the night overall. It pushed TEN to fourth place. TEN was also fourth on Saturday.

MasterChef Australia: The Winner Announced was the top show of the week with 3.96m -a figure that didn’t change after being adjusted for overruns. A number of media trumpeted these extraordinary figures as the highest non-sporting event of all time. But the introduction of OzTAM system in 2001 makes a comparison with pre-OzTAM figures as impractical.

That said, they remain stunning figures.

  1. and the second to last episode of Being Human- but if chanel ten can have the phenomenon that was Masterchef( for better or worse) and still not win to the overwhelming garbage of 7 and 9

Why does Ten persist with the AFL coverage? Let Seven have it all.

You cannot be serious? Channel Seven do not show any game live… appalling. I would rather Ten any day – at least you get live coverage on all games they air to TV.

    Seven = shame, shame, shame.

  3. Funny that Seven will win the weeks but would always lose the important demos to etiher Nine or Ten, it goes to show that Seven is the place for the oldies.

  4. David, do you have the revised number for Ten’s coverage of federal election debate? I would like to know how many people watched the debate across four free-to-air networks last Sunday.

  5. What Ten needs to do is go back to it’s before 1996 idea of Putting Children’s programming on between 4 and 5pm and retain the rest of the shows as is.If it weren’t for Oprah or Ready Steady Cook we could stick Bold on anywhere between 1 and 3pm.

  6. Any network that plays out Bones and Castle repeats on Sunday night at 8:30 does not deserve to win the week. Seven are lucky News, TT and H&A are still delivering – but they are very vulnerable.

  7. Post MasterChef Ten’s 6-7pm black hole really hurts them. They should shunt Neighbours to 430, put Bold at 5, run their hour long news from 530 and run shows like Biggest Loser at 630.

  8. GO! hitting 4% is a first for digital tv. as is 7two’s massive 8.4% share on saturday. digital tv is realy taking off.

disapointing week for ten. they haven’t tried at all to make a post MC schedule that works. a huge opportunity wasted to launch some big expensive new shows. i’m sure 7 would kill to have that kind of exposure to promote the X factor in and ten seem to have wasted it on factuals, imports and repeats. ten have not launched a single new aussie show all year and we are well into the 3rd quarter.

  9. Last year, Ten opened a 20-point lead after the MasterChef finale, only to finish second for the week (25% to Seven’s 27.3%). This week Ten had a 22-point lead only to finish the week by 3.4% (including digital channels). Will Ten ever learn how to do post-MC programming?
