Actor Dennis Farina, best known for Law & Order, has died, aged 69.
Farina, who played Det. Joe Fontana, died in Arizona after suffering a blood clot in his lung, his publicist confirmed.
The former police officer turned character actor usually played a gangster or mobster, and even his more heroic roles had a tinge of menace to them.
He also appeared in the HBO drama Luck as Gus Demitriou, the driver, confidante and “muscle” for horse owner Chester “Ace” Bernstein, played by Dustin Hoffman and had a recurring role in New Girl.
His film roles included Out of Sight, Midnight Run, Get Shorty and Saving Private Ryan, Reindeer Games, The Mod Squad, Manhunter and Thief.

Shocked and saddened to here of this. I remember his time in L&O but for someone who watches Unsolved Mysteries every saturday night that’s what he’s best known for.
Bummer..
Yes loved him in Snatch.
His character died on the New Girl and I was disappointed that we wouldn’t get to see him on the show again, but now, sadly, we will never see him in anymore new roles.
Not forgetting his turn in Snatch:
“London. You know: fish, chips, cup ‘o tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary F—ing Poppins … London!” and
“‘Anything to declare?’ ‘Yeah, don’t go to England.
that sucks.
celeb deaths do come in 3’s!!
James, Cory and now Dennis
What a shame – I loved his work. He delivered one of the rudest but funniest lines about LA in ‘Get Shorty’:
“They say the f@#king smog is the f@#king reason you get such beautiful f@#king sunsets.”
And then he clobbered Gene Hackman with a telephone.
RIP.
He was great in Crime Story – wished that series went for longer than it did.
He was perfect as a cop in L&O,obviously with him being an ex-cop himself.
I liked him in the Bruce Willis/Sarah Jessica Parker movie called Striking Distance.
Crime Story was great
wish it was repeated on TV somewhere
It also be mentioned his starring role in Crime Story which I am currently seeing on DVD.
