The cast for Common Sense, the “office-style” counterpart to Gogglebox, has been announced by TEN and Foxtel.
The format by Gogglebox creators Studio Lambert, sees everyday people from 10 diverse workplaces across Australia making sense of the news of the week. They will tackle news, current affairs, politics, sport and popular culture, drawn from newspapers, radio, magazines and websites including headlines and more obscure stories.
The cast includes “hairdressing mums Nicki (31) and Kathy (45); business partners Robert (70)
and Lord Frank (74); removalists and best mates Brett (29) and Lawrence (27); opinionated retirees Jean (92), Aileen (89) and Ted (86); entrepreneurs and self-proclaimed pop culture junkies Helen (30) and Sarah (32); cheeky young real estate agents Jake (29) and Ayden (21); young barrister Neal (39) and his mentor Mark (53); the potato-selling Yip family of Darren (49), Trudi (46), Aileen (70) and Matthew (39); mother-and-daughter team Lois (75) and Michelle-Anne (49), along with Betty (78), all of whom are partners in a bra shop; and the quintessentially Aussie butchers, Luke (26) and Eric (56).”
To be produced by Endemol Shine Australia, this is the second jointly commissioned series between Foxtel and TEN and again screens in back to back nights across both.
7.30pm Wednesday 5 July on LifeStyle
8.30pm Thursday 6 July on TEN.

Seems like this show is skewing heavily older with this cast.
I suppose it depends on your definition of “older”: Eight 21-32 year olds, Nine 39-56 year olds, Eight 70-92 year olds.
There are gaps in the thirties, sixties, and no teenagers. Interesting to have three who are over 80.
Is there an equivalent program in the US or the UK, or is this an original local program?
BBC2.
And from the couple of episodes I’ve seen, it’s terrible – though that’s mostly down to some lazier casting choices that UK Gogglebox, and some bizzarely awful production quality (which the Grauniad at least posits might be a format problem from having to hack out the crazy / legally actionable bits).
Love it already! It’s something we don’t have a lot of on TV…actual ‘real’ everyday people.
Sounds weird.
It does sound weird and just like the “letters to the editor” part of your local newspaper or internet forums.
Sounds like a really good mix of a age and profession. I’m keen to see how the show works compared to Gogglebox and Going Home.
