Inside Nine

As problems continue to plague the Nine Network there is an interesting journalistic piece in today’s Age Newspaper by Peter Wilmoth.

Wilmoth looks at the culture of the network, with particular reference to some of the key figures including Jeff Browne, Eddie McGuire, John Westacott, Garry Linell, plus former Nine men Mark Llewellyn and Gerald Stone.

TV Tonight has always maintained that the death of Kerry Packer would take years to see the network re-adjust, and frankly, Nine is still in the middle of that process.

If the events of recent weeks pique your interest, the article is a good read.

Meanwhile Ray Martin has confirmed he is open to offers from other networks once his contract with Nine expires at the end of the year. “There’s nothing at Nine at the moment that interests me, or is being offered,” he told the SMH.

And finally, the Daily Telegraph also gets in on the news suggesting that Nine has paid more than $25M in severance payments to “dis-affected talent.”

  1. A comment in the previous post was absolutely correct- they are finally getting people who understand television. Browne can merely oversee this process.

Westacott is a tough bastard, but a talented one.
