Peter Cundall, host of Gardening Australia, will retire at the end of 2008.
The gentlemanly presenter has been on ABC radio and TV for nearly 40 years.
Cundall celebrated his 80th birthday this year and says next year is a good time to move on.
During this year’s federal election, Cundall said the then federal environment minister, Malcolm Turnbull, had told him in August that he “hated” the Gunns pulp mill proposed for northern Tasmania.

Agree with the other comment…I can’t believe this guy is 80! I would have said 55 or 60. Think it must say something for the lifestyle in Tasmania and the stress free nature of working in the garden!
This guy spends way too much time “down the back of his garden” doing goodness knows what!
Shame to see him off our screens!
Can’t believe how old he is I would swear he was 20 years younger.
