Wanted: Neighbours Story Editor / Script Editor

Think you can write Neighbours better than the current batch?

Perhaps FremantleMedia thinks somebody can.

They are currently advertising for both a Story Editor and Script Editor.

The Story Editor will “lead a team of highly motivated storyliners, and be responsible for overseeing the plotting of five dynamic episodes of serial drama each week.” Applicants must be skilled at “problem solving, be a prolific story generator, have proven experience in long-form storytelling, and strong leadership skills.”

The Script Editor needs “a proven track record editing Australian television drama, an excellent understanding of the serial genre, and a desire to tell stories that are emotionally affecting.”

Both positions are advertised through ScreenHub (requires membership).

  1. David, please apply for the job! 😉

I’m glad they appear (in those actions) to realise that something isn’t working with the current stories!

Someone needs to inject to reality and balls into this show, it’s gone so far from reality it’s painful.

I thought the final two episodes were so bad, I’m actually not sure I’ll bother catching the first episode back.. nothing new, nothing shocking, and really really really poor acting, hello… do they need a new director too? Is 6:30pm too early to show any form of pain in such circumstances as the finale?

How about a gutsy script, which takes risks, has real people, pretty, ugly, gay, straight, bi, tall, short, non-former Australian Idol “stars”, read the paper once in a while, get a reality check.. Have a neighbour whom doesn’t get involved so much, have a garage sale to allow visiting extras with speaking roles, don’t over promote BS like Lou & Andy from Little Britain who didn’t even have a real role (that episode was when I really started loosing respect for the show and got sick of it’s BS and over-advertising spin), listen to public opinion of the show, people obviously want the show to continue if they’re offering advice or requesting change! So take action fast, while they still care to bother!?

PS. What’s with the Bridget Parker character, is she not obviously Bobby Simpson/Morgan/Marshall from Home & Away, in every way? lol

  2. The shows gotten better, but it’s now a little heavy handed. Did Susan really have to have MS? We don’t want to see that, we want to see her as a Mother, Teacher and Freind. After going through years of Karl & Suasan’s marraige dramas, it was time for them to be happy and be there as support for the younger characters. Libby was rather harsh with Darren, not letting him spend time with her son and all. And when are they gonna learn that we don’t have to have a roof falling in, just to keep viewers comming back next year.

  3. ANY idiot can write Neighbours better than the current lot. It’s often the little things that can make or break a script.

I mean, why the hell does everyone say “arvo”? I don’t think I even know anyone who uses that word.

The dialogue and storylines as a whole though are really weak. Another thing that shits me about the series is that rather than depicting their characters as likeable yet flawed, they transform them into irrational retards overnight, just to go through with a tacked-on storyline.

  4. Hate to say this, but god they need something new. As a Neighbours fan, I’ve been disappointed since the revamp, and tonight’s finale was really nothing special.

Nice to see the back of Wentworth again though 😉
