9021-0h dear. TEN drops teen soap.

Another show disappears in a puff of smoke to return "later in the year," network speak for out of ratings.

Less than a week after dropping Taken Out from its schedule, Channel TEN has now yanked 90210, including plans to slate the show on Friday nights from next week.

Only five of the episodes have aired.

The show started in Australia with a double episode attracting 837,000 and 666,000 in early September. This week it averaged 616,000.

TEN had already announced a move it to Friday nights from next week, replacing it with Supernatural, but that now won’t happen. TEN maintains that it still believes in the show and it will return later in the year.

In the US, the show had a strong launch as the highest rated series premiere ever for the CW Network in the 18-49 demographic. Within three weeks it won a full series, the first of the new Fall season. As a fasttracked series, TEN had not been able to preview the drama before scheduling it -one of the downsides of fasttracking.

After its US premiere, TEN’s David Mott said, “Rarely do you have a show with such great global buzz and we’re confident come Tuesday morning we’ll be crowing our own rating victory.”

TEN will air a movie, The Bourne Supremacy at 8:30pm on Friday October 10 and United 93 October 17th.

  1. This is absolute rubbish on Channel 10’s part, can’t you just let a show stick around for a full season, instead of taking it off the TV without us seeing it properly!! It was like prison break, and now it’s finally back on!!

    Pathetic Channel TEN!!

  2. Just another reason we download most of the TV shows we watch. Get them quicker, no ads and no hassles like these. We hardly watch free to air TV these days. This is just one of the the reasons why.

As for Fast-Tracking, we’ll still see episodes a week earlier than free to air.

  3. This is utter crap.. out of all the shows on T.V the one show that is aimed at a teen audience is canned and all you people saying that it is aimed at one age group who cares you get to watch all that dancing with the stars crap and the medical shows and stuff let us have one show that we can watch and in some ways more then others relate too…

    dealing with divorce
thinking about having sex relationship issues and other things watch it you might learn something about ur kids and how they deal with things.

  4. I didn’t watch this but it just proves Ten’s unwilingness to stick with programs to see how they turn out. Some of the best and most successful programs have started out with cult viewings – Little Britain, Doctor Who… and look at them! At least Ten didn’t axe Flight of the Conchords, but putting it on in a random late Sunday night time-slot probably didn’t help its ratings.

My first experience with Ten ruining a program was Torchwood. They were unwilling to give Series One a chance, and now Series Two (which is so much better!) is on late on HD. And that, my friends, is what Amazon’s for…

  5. what i mean to say is.
channel 10 and fox8. they have a deal with all their Fox type shows. plus most of their shows anyways. i know 90210 isn’t a fox show anymore. it’s a CW show. but so is supernatural, gossip girl and smallville, and they r all on fox8. what I’m saying is. would it be great if fox8 reinvented itself (yet again) to make it a more teen orientated network. i do watch my fair share of TV (and about 100 other peoples fair share too). fox8 is a good channel in the long run. i mean. animation domination, all those teens dramas. plus the adult dramas, like bones, and 24. and soon to come is dollhouse. which is supposed to be awesome. 90210 would go perfect on a tuesday night. with gossip girl the best years. and others. also another teen drama i like. friday night lights:). except IT’S SO DAM MOVEY. lol. but yeah. imagine it.
    tuesday night. 7:30 = America’s next top model 8:30 = Gossip Girl 9:30 = 90210 10:20 = The Best Years

  6. I am so annoyed at ten… can they not give TV shows a chance. I mean 5 episodes is hardly giving something a chance. The writers are still getting into the swing of things and the actors into the characters. Ten has a bad habit of pulling shows. I remember back a few years ago when ten picked up a new show called “The OC”… they did the same thing… aired a few eps and then pulled it because it wasn’t rating well enought and what do you know it was a great show after the actually gave it a chance. Ten to often say something will “return later in the year” and they never seem to return. Look at One Tree Hill… that has never seen the TV here and people have to buy it on DVD, or Charmed for that matter….. the final series never aired after it was pulled to “return later in the year” and if it did return I never saw one ad for it or one mention of it in TV week. Come on ten give new shows a chance and PULL YOUR HEADS IN.

  7. I cant believe TEN would do this.

Its is the only drama on commercial tv that us teens can some what relate too.

I hope FOX 8 or another channel picks it up.

  8. Yeah I must admit it did start out a bit boring for about the first 6 eps, but i almost always stick with a show until the end. Interestingly, the lowest rating episode, the second last one, was the best episode of the series.

  9. Journeyman started out crap but really found its legs around episode 3. I liked it – but then it was axed. The story arcs like the FBI Agent finding out Dan’s ability were really well done.

  10. Exactly Irastev, i find it difficult to name the least contemptuous network, as seven is easily up there with nine and ten. I purposely didn’t tune into journeyman when it was on in the summer, but ended up watching it through other means, and it was pretty good. Sure, it wouldn’t have given the ratings during ratings season here, but it was on in summer, so one would have expected that it would stay for the full season. Yes, it did move to HD, and i do have access to HD, but who is to know exactly what they will do with it.

  11. Ron, any business that keeps treating its customers like Ten and Nine treat their audience would go belly up in no time. The customers will go elsewhere to satisfy their needs. That’s exactly what is happening now with our commercial television.

What was the last new scripted TV series from the US / UK that gave Ten a ratings victory? I wonder why. Personally, I haven’t tuned into a new series on Ten for a year, because I’d had enough of their spastic schedule and disregard for the viewers. That’s why I didn’t bother to tune into Californication, Women’s Murder Club, Burn Notice, Psych, 90210, Dexter… Although I enjoyed Dexter on DVD and am loving Psych which is now on the ratingless 10HD.

As far as 90210 goes, most of the pre-premiere buzz involved the members of the original cast. I wonder if CW didn’t send previewes because the public would realise that the original cast is not as prominent in the new show as CW has let everyone believe.

  12. Fast tracking 90210 has nothing to do with it. The producers did not release a preview before the premier so no-one had a sneak peak – here or in the US.

  13. Nononono
i know so many people that watch it though
    when will it be back!
everybody is just going to watch it on the internet
    URGH
    stupid channel 10
hardly any of there programs get good ratings

  14. Why do they bother fastracking programs when they generally end up scrapping the shows after a few episodes? Channel 10 is making a habit of this & it is very annoying!! I’ll definitely be thinking twice about watching any show that is fast tracked on Channel 10.

  15. Nooooo!!!!! Damn you Channel 10! Have you been taking lessons from Evil Nein?
I’m not a teenager (sadly far from it), but I loved, loved, LOVED the original 90210 when I was a teenager and watched the new version too. I was annoyed enough when the voiceover on Monday night said 90210 was moving to Friday nights, now I find out it’s been banished to “later in the year”. Yeah right. Much like Veronica Mars was, eh? (And yes, I know they eventually put it on the HD channel, but by then I had downloaded it and bought the DVDs) Grrr and argh.

  16. Damn Chanell 10, As a fan of the old show, I loved it. I don’t think that Jennie & Shannon were wasted, they had been intergrated nicely. The only problem with this show was that they tried to do a whole lot really fast, it would have been better to give some of the characters time to develop instead of thrusting story lines on all of them. Remember Donna & David were only support chaarcters in the first season ofthe original. Offcourse I wish 10 would have given it time to develop also….
Summers looking good for returning shows that were dropped…but how long will they last then…?

  17. I’m over 30 and was really enjoying it, especially since Brenda and Kelly were on it.

Also I was a fan of Taken Out which got pulled without warning.

What the heck is wrong with you Channel 10!!

  18. You people talking about the limited demographics of teen dramas don’t know what you’re talking about. The original BH90210 had an average US viewer age of 30, and The O.C. one of 29.

  19. First it’s Mean Girls, that a week or so after that it’s Clueless/How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days… (they like that one; it reminds people of what channel they’re watching)
