Thank God You’re Here switches to Seven

Channel Seven has swooped once more, this time on TEN's hit comedy, Thank God You're Here, poised to return in 2009.

Thank God You’re Here is switching from Network TEN to Channel Seven.

It will return in 2009 with Shane Bourne as host and Tom Gleisner as judge.

The hit improvisation show has previously enjoyed three seasons on TEN.

The shift from networks, which follows Seven’s acquisition of Kath & Kim from the ABC, is a major coup for Seven and a huge blow to the TEN Network. It was sorely missed as part of TEN’s Sunday line-up.

“Having taken a year off it felt right to try some new things with the show,” said Tom Gleisner, “including a different home. Moving will give us the opportunity to expose Thank God You’re Here to a whole new audience, while also allowing Shane to continue using his City Homicide parking space.”

Seven CEO David Leckie said, “We see this as being the first of many shows in a long term relationship with Working Dog. They are the best in the business at what they do and that’s why they’ll fit in just perfectly at Seven.”

TV Tonight hears March is a potential starting date…

Press Release:
The sensational comedy series Thank God You’re Here is poised to join Australian TV’s best prime time line-up on Channel Seven.

Thank God You’re Here, an award-winning creation from Working Dog Productions, will join Channel Seven’s 2009 schedule for its fourth season of unscripted mayhem.

Shane Bourne will remain the show’s host in addition to his role on the hit Channel Seven police drama City Homicide.

Judge and co-creator Tom Gleisner:

“Having taken a year off it felt right to try some new things with the show – including a different home. Moving will give us the opportunity to expose Thank God You’re Here to a whole new audience, while also allowing Shane to continue using his City Homicide parking space.”

Thank God You’re Here is a huge hit locally and overseas.

Channel Seven chief executive David Leckie is ecstatic to add another Aussie hit to the network’s stable:

“I have wanted to work with the Working Dog team for years and I’m happy that we waited long enough for it to be for the right show – Thank God You’re Here is a fabulous show and it will be even more fabulous on Seven.

“We see this as being the first of many shows in a long term relationship with Working Dog. They are the best in the business at what they do and that’s why they’ll fit in just perfectly at Seven.”

  1. Can’t believe the anti 7 sentiment about this, why isn’t everyone (well most are but the majority aren’t) giving 10 an absolute kicking for letting this happen??

What an unbelievable coup for 7, and yet another knife in the chest for 10, what the hell is going on over at 10, absolutely disgraceful that this was allowed to just happen.

  2. Nooooo!!!!!!

This is terrible news. I mean its great that its returning but on Channel Seven??? People talk about Nine recycling show ideas, but at least they make their own versions, and not steal other networks top shows. However this happened, I feel sorry for TEN, they showed faith in Working Dog and TGYH, and this is how they repay TEN. After all, it was one of TEN’s most successful local shows in recent years

    Not happy jan!

  3. :O :O :O :O :O :O :O Bastards!

How the hell did Ten lose out?! Without TGYH, they will be completely stuffed next year. :O

And surely Ten aren’t stupid enough to sacrifice their top rating show for Shane Bourne. :/

  4. This was a story on Sydney’s edition of Seven News at 6pm. Channel Seven must be happy to make it newsworthy – bet it won’t make Channel Ten’s news!

  5. How is this possible?

Did 7 outbid 10 or did Working Dog simply want to be on Australia’s number one network? If its the latter and even if its that 7 outbid 10 why would Working Dog leave the network that made their show so popular??

I agree with CJ – its like ditching your friends.

Maybe it will flop on 7 seeing as the oldies mainly watch them.

  6. How does something like this happen? Surely Ten would pay anything for new episodes of this show? Or is it more to do with contractual obligations Shane Bourne has with 7?

  7. @ Earthquake – xmas special is on apparently.

“…give us the opportunity to expose Thank God You’re Here to a whole new audience…”

are there all these people out there that get ch 7 but not ch 10?

i call B.S. on you Tommy.

  8. Wow, this is just an amazing coup for Seven. They’ve really established themselves as the dominant network.

Yeah, stupid Ten. They’re in such a sorry position, that’s it’s hard to tell how they’d be able to improve. I guess buy up as many US shows as possible, and just go gung ho about being the American network. Not like they have any real choice, and all their remaining Australian productions are just about dead.

  9. Traitor! That gives me more reason not to watch any shows on Seven.
Another Today Tonight type of ambush. I wonder if Seven is also poaching Spicks and Specks.

  10. I’m sorry this is kinda funny.

Ten had a monster hit on their hands – they should have done whatever it took to get a 4th season out of Working Dog.

    Stupid stupid Ten

  11. Wow! I knew Working Dog were an arrogant bunch, but I never thought they would stoop this low. It’s like high school when you betray your loyal best friend to go and hang out with the cool kids. What kind of person does this? TEN supported and took chances on their shows for years, and this is how they repay them? All I can say is karma is a bitch.

  12. oooh. massive kick in the guts for ten. I wonder what will happen with Hamish though… he most likely will be staying with ten. It wouldn’t be the same without him.
