Thank God You’re Here switches to Seven

Channel Seven has swooped once more, this time on TEN's hit comedy, Thank God You're Here, poised to return in 2009.

Thank God You’re Here is switching from Network TEN to Channel Seven.

It will return in 2009 with Shane Bourne as host and Tom Gleisner as judge.

The hit improvisation show has previously enjoyed three seasons on TEN.

The shift from networks, which follows Seven’s acquisition of Kath & Kim from the ABC, is a major coup for Seven and a huge blow to the TEN Network. It was sorely missed as part of TEN’s Sunday line-up.

“Having taken a year off it felt right to try some new things with the show,” said Tom Gleisner, “including a different home. Moving will give us the opportunity to expose Thank God You’re Here to a whole new audience, while also allowing Shane to continue using his City Homicide parking space.”

Seven CEO David Leckie said, “We see this as being the first of many shows in a long term relationship with Working Dog. They are the best in the business at what they do and that’s why they’ll fit in just perfectly at Seven.”

TV Tonight hears March is a potential starting date…

Press Release:
The sensational comedy series Thank God You’re Here is poised to join Australian TV’s best prime time line-up on Channel Seven.

Thank God You’re Here, an award-winning creation from Working Dog Productions, will join Channel Seven’s 2009 schedule for its fourth season of unscripted mayhem.

Shane Bourne will remain the show’s host in addition to his role on the hit Channel Seven police drama City Homicide.

Judge and co-creator Tom Gleisner:

“Having taken a year off it felt right to try some new things with the show – including a different home. Moving will give us the opportunity to expose Thank God You’re Here to a whole new audience, while also allowing Shane to continue using his City Homicide parking space.”

Thank God You’re Here is a huge hit locally and overseas.

Channel Seven chief executive David Leckie is ecstatic to add another Aussie hit to the network’s stable:

“I have wanted to work with the Working Dog team for years and I’m happy that we waited long enough for it to be for the right show – Thank God You’re Here is a fabulous show and it will be even more fabulous on Seven.

“We see this as being the first of many shows in a long term relationship with Working Dog. They are the best in the business at what they do and that’s why they’ll fit in just perfectly at Seven.”

  1. Ten will be fine if they were relying on this show that heavily then they would of had problems, just like Big Brother and Idol they put everything into a few shows and if they fail or a problem arises the network crumbles. It may be a big blow for the network but if the programmers can’t fix it they shouldn’t get their pay check. The lost of BB and this show could spark new things for the network (not Masterchef) it will mean they will have to start from scratch to a certain extent and maybe this will be a good thing.

    *Channel 7 makes me cringe!*

  2. Well Thank God I won’t be watching this TV show now when it shows on Seven. Just another kick in the teeth when I read about the switching of stations.. I just have a feeling that A’OK will be in one or a few episodes.. also i do hope it doesn’t rate as well as it does on it’s supposed station channel 10, and it will sink faster than the titanic. Just wanted to mention I won’t be watching 7 with this attitude they have, and yes clearly they are running out of ideas, and people say that nine is, but at least nine doesn’t steal
    other stations pride and glory…

  3. “what next GNW will make the move to Seven?”

you mean after it moved from the ABC to Ten, who completely stuffed it up and axed it, and only brought it back back this year because the Wrtiers Strike meant they had sweet FA else to put in their schedule?

  4. You’re kidding me! Wooooooooow…

So what exactly does TEN have now? Dance, Biggest Loser, ermmm… that’s all I can think of.

Everyone’s saying poor TEN, but OMG poor Nine – how can they compete with this on Wednesday?! Or really any other day? I’m speechless!

  5. if their over expose unfunny morons they call tallent on that network are on the show more than once. i expext to be gone by july. people are sick of krugar, koche and co. they will be thrown on the show i can the show not even lasting the year out on 7

  6. Geez short memories for some. GMW used to be on the ABC I thought

Anyway, Nine and Seven will come back to the field once they offload some assets to pay all that debt. Ten will have a winner with the sport channel and both ABC and SBS will just keep creeping up the ratings ladder

I know TGYH is popular but in a way its kind of lame and after next season you’d wonder what new scenarios could be developed – maybe Sonia Kruger could star in one episode as a prop (a good looking prop if nothing else)

  7. OMG!!!! what just happened!!! tgyh does not look right on seven! Ten, get ready for another bad year. god whats happening to my teen network!!! so disappointed that seven have tgyh.

  8. What a fantastic grab for Seven. Really cements them as the number #1 network in the country. As other commented Ten should have really done everything they could to hold onto this gem of a program as on Wednesday nights it was pulling nearly 2 million viewers for them.

Will we now see more collaboration with Glenn Robbins as he has a rich history with working dog and is now doing a lot for Seven? The return of All Aussie Adventures?

Maybe we will finally see a decent late night talk show, its what i think Australian TV is missing at the moment.

  9. I cant believe all this “its like betraying your friend” crap that im reading..um, people, TV is a business, a cut throat one at that, the aim is to sell ad space to make money for shareholders…networks do whatever it takes to make that happen..end of story!

  10. wow… this is amazing, and would have to have something to do with contractual arrangements wth Shane Bourne and 7… I feel bad for ten for losing such a hit show, and also nervous at what kind of “talent” seven will try and throw into the show to cross-promote their shows… ew…

  11. Ten had a terrible year this year and can’t see it improving much in ’09. Why would you want to be at the helm of a sinking ship? Seven is strong and many forget the D-Generation got a helping hand from Seven in the eighties. Go Leckie Go!

  12. I feel so sorry for ten. This is like a stab in the heart but worse. Ten should have fought for this but they instead spend all this money on sport they forgot about the shows they actually have on their main channel. Maybe ten thought that they would automatically get the new series. I wonder what was behind working dogs minds. It could be a few things. Maybe there was a rift we didnt know about with ten and working dog, maybe WD wanted to be with the number one network or maybe seven saw an opportunity and took it. I still think it will be a hit on seven. This would have to be one of the biggest blows in years for the ten network. Also seven isnt all about the oldies.

  13. perhaps seven promised Working Dog experiemental air time on HD?
Or as the working dog team get older it seems less fitting to be with a younger channel?
Dont think we will see The Hollowmen switiching from ABC though.

  14. At the end of the day,
“Working Dog” make TGYH, not ch 7 or 10.
I would assume it doesnt make too much of an impact which station their on.

However… I’m intrigued how similar ‘This is your laugh’ (andrew o keefe’s) is to TGYH. Theatresports and impro are hardly trademarked concepts, but if it uses a script to keep it safe and solid (as with TGYH), then they’re getting pretty close to copying.
So then…. does CH 7 buying TGYH diffuse any potential scuffle between the shows?
