Jack Thompson has signed to a new comedy pilot with CBS, The Karenskys.
Written by Malcolm in the Middle creator Linwood Boomer he will play an argumentative and tight-fisted father to Emily Atwood (Sasha Alexander), who returns to her hometown when her husband’s job relocates them and is reunited with her large, eccentric family, the Karenskys.
Mather Zickel (“Rachel Getting Married”) will play Emily’s husband Bill Atwood, a biology professor who feels the loud, “men-kissing” Karenskys bunch might be too close for comfort. Annie Potts will play Pearl Karensky, Emily’s cheerful and deeply religious mother.
Thompson currently narrates Seven’s popular Find My Family, hardly a gig that can’t be completed from almost anywhere in the world.
In the US he has previously appeared in The Assasination of Richard Nixon, Star Wars, Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil and The Thorn Birds sequel. But there ain’t that many comedies on his CV!

Sounds like rubbish….
“CBS Sitcom” doesn’t sound like the most appetising thing, but still good luck to Mr. Thompson.
Can I just point out – quite aside from this story – I totally cringe whenever someone refers to an Australian born celebrity working overseas as “our” – most commonly used on Kylie Minogue and Nicole Kidman.
I’m happy for their success but I don’t lay claim to it – and nor should the media.
I guess this doesn’t bode well for at least one of CBS’s comedies. BBT, HIMYM and 2.5 men are no doubt safe. Rules of Engagement is probably safe as well. So that leaves a toss-up between Gary Unmarried, Worst Week and Old Christine as to which one gets the boot. My money’s on Worst Week
I hope he’s playing an Aussie – I hate to say this but I think Jack does the worst American accents I’ve heard in my life!
There’s also that new Hilary Duff sitcom about her playing the youngest lawyer in the county?
