Prison Break to end

FOX announces Prison Break will have no more seasons, but promises a few more episodes to wrap the series.

Sadly, here’s a decision I have to agree with.

FOX Network has decided the current fourth season of Prison Break is its last. But there WILL be an ending.

“We’ve got our remaining batch of four episodes and then there are a couple more we’re contemplating,” says network president Kevin Reilly,

He says the four-year old drama has simply run its course. “The show is played out.”

Alas, he’s right. Let’s face it, there isn’t even a prison in the latest series. The whole “scylla” chase is a baffling story-arc, not without its highs and lows sure, but it seems very removed from the original premise no matter how bizarrely they try to tie it in. Frankly, I don’t know why they didn’t do a series where they had to break back IN to a prison. Maybe they felt it was too similar.

I do recall reading an articles many years ago where the writers conceded their show was not likely to have a particularly long life. So they’ve done well to make it this far, really.

Seven has aired the mid-season finale and like the US we’re now all awaiting the last batch of four (or more?) episodes.

“Creatively, everybody feels enough stories have been told. … We want to finish strong and not just gimp out next season. They have a cool ending,” Reilly said.

“I know where they end, and it’s a hell of an idea.”

It returns in the US on April 17.

  1. Season 4 was the best of the seasons, so at least it went out with a bang.

I think if they changed the name of the series to reflect it’s new focus then it would take off again.

  2. I haven’t missed an episode and have the dvd’s but I have to agree, it has run its course. The first 2 seasons were great, but season 3 was a mess. Perhaps the writers strike was to blame. I’ve enjoyed this season, but there’s little more they can do. One of the best things about Prison Break is it brought to the fore a lot of new talent such as Robert Knepper, Amaury Nolasco, Camille Guaty, Sarah Wayne Callies and of course, Wentworth Miller.

Let’s hope imaginative and quality shows such as Prison Break continue to be produced.

  3. I have to agree with Renny…LOST has gotten better as its gone along excluding a slight dip in quality in the third season, but the 4th season kicked ass with the introduction of the Freighter characters and the fact that we got to see 6 of the LOSTies actually make it off the island. BTW Neil LOST actually has 17 eps in seasons 5 and 6, not 15, they got some extra eps after the writer’s strike boned them last year

  4. I too hope 7 fast track the last episodes. Even if they are on 7HD or late night, it will be good to see a show actually finish rather than disappear mid-story.

Love the show, but agree with the decision to end it.

  5. I agree it has to come to an end – I have watched all Seasons and season 4 has been great. Lets hope Seven brings us the rest of the episodes sooner rather than “When they feel like it.”

  6. Will Seven find room to play out the final four episodes? Or will they hold onto them for ages like the two season 2 Heroes episodes. I no longer like this show enough to download it but I do want some resolution.

  7. Unlike others here,I came to this late after initally truning off after one ep (it wasthat bad) But the ‘sylla’ stuff got me half interested and maybe ‘cos it was that silly. I enjoyed it.
Glad they put it out of its misery – waits till Lost ends in 2027 !!

  8. so sad 🙁
ive watched this show since the start, but all good things come to an end eventually. Lets just hope seven bring us the new episodes, quickly, but seeing as they dont air in the us till the end of april, seven will proberly wait till june/july to air them

  9. This show has got to be finished. S4 started off well but quickly lost steam, its nowhere near as good as the first 2 seasons, I think the biggest mistake was the abomination that was S3, there was simply no reason to throw Mike into another prison, especially when it only results in a bad rehash of season 1. I’m looking forward to it being over

  10. yeah i’ve enjoyed this season, mostly coz sarah came back, season 3 just wasn’t the same without her, i think her and michael play really well off eachother. but yes they can’t just keep on dragging it out forever, it’ll be good to get some closure.

  11. April 17 I was waiting for a date, thank you David a ITA. Some shows are better off with shorter runs and all involved knowing when to end, rather then have the plug pulled mid way through a dieing season.

  12. ive watched this since day 1 and have followed it all over sevens schedule but im glad its ending, ive more watched this season with a “ive come this far, im not giving in now” attitude rather than watching it for pure enjoyment!!

  13. oh well, i’ve quite enjoyed it, but if they think it’s over then we can’t ask much more. i’m sure all fans would prefer to end well now than end unhonourably at midnight after another season.

  14. About 3 seasons too late IMO. I loved season 1, but the novelty of the show quickly lost steam in subsequent seasons, though season 2 was okay.

What’s with the huge hiatus in the US. It’s going to lose more of the few viewers it has left.
