Tania Zaetta receives Defence Force compo

Untrue allegations made over Tania Zaetta last year result in a formal apology and compensation by the Australian Defence Force.

tzaetta1Tania Zaetta has received compensation from the Defence Force over damaging allegations that she had sex with soldiers while entertaining troops in Afghanistan.

The allegations were made in a Defence document that was sent to Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon in May 2008 and leaked to the media, but were later found to be untrue.

ADF chief Angus Houston met with Zaetta yesterday to personally apologise to her and her family “for any hurt and distress they may have suffered,” said a Defence statement.

“It’s very painful to go through something like that, and also to watch for my family to go through it,” Zaetta said. They also had a very rough time. He gave me a lovely, heartfelt, sincere apology, which meant the world to me. I’m not one to hold grudges.”

The entertainers’ tour was filmed by the ABC’s Australian Story. At Houston’s invitation, Zaetta says she would be happy to revisit another tour with Defence.

The amount of compensation was not disclosed.

  1. Personally i am more concerned with the “leaked to the media” aspect and the subsequent “running with it” by the media.

I presume the taxpayer has funded the settlement via Govt funds to ADF.

If something inappropriate is suspected of happening and is reported to ADF officials for investigation – then that investigation should be allowed to take place. If the allegation is proved then and only then should the media be allowed to “spread the news”. If it is not proven, then that should be the end of the matter – no damage to anyone’s reputation and no expensive pay out – money which could have been spent on more worthy things.

  2. “The allegations were made in a Defence document that was sent to Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon in May 2008 and leaked to the media”

Let’s hope that their research is a bit more accurate when it comes to actual defence/tactical matters. “Leaked to the media”… Glad it wasn’t a millitary secret or something similar instead. Are the ADF actually investigating the stuff up and subsequent leak?

This doesn’t reflect well on the ADF’s reputation and now taxpayers have to pay up. At least we get to hear about it rather than it being hushed up (maybe only thanks to the leak?)

  3. Trashed so badly by the “gossip” pages mikey, not the ADF.
Perhaps professional liars need to fork over some of their apparent “hard earned”
