Airdate: Lost in Austen

A critically acclaimed, fantasy re-telling of Pride & Prejudice is coming to your ABC.

61Next month the ABC brings us a reinvented take on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in Lost in Austen.

The 4 part tale stars Hollywood actress Alex Kingston (ER; Croupier; Moll Flanders) alongside a line-up including Hugh Bonneville (Notting Hill; Iris), Lindsay Duncan (Rome; Longford) and new Bond girl Gemma Arterton (St. Trinians; Quantum Of Solace).

Bored bank worker Amanda Price (Jemima Rooper – The Black Dahlia; As If; Hex) likes to escape from her unremarkable life and unromantic boyfriend by losing herself in the pages of period novel, Pride and Prejudice. Yet, by a strange accident she literally becomes lost in her favourite Austen book, after she finds a strange portal in her bathroom and swaps places with its heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Gemma Arterton).

Reviews were univerally good such as this one in The Independent on Sunday:

..somewhere in his youth or childhood, Michael Grade must have done something good. Lost In Austen is everything ITV needs it to be: entirely delightful nonsense. What sounded on paper like a cynical hybrid (bonnets and speed dating! This will tick every woman’s box!) has arrived on our screens pert, warm and funny. Like Billie Piper, Jemima Rooper is an entirely contemporary actress, effortlessly likeable and believable. Is it the hair? Is it the vowels? There’s a sally like her in every shop on every street. She’s every bint. A perfect time-travel companion.

It airs at 8:30pm Sunday March 8th, taking over from Cranford.

  1. This seems like an interesting take on the book… much better than These zombie and alien movies that are going to be coming out apparently. At the very least, it is getting better reviews than those others, thankfully.
