Bumped: 24

After 24's middling return last night it gets downgraded by Seven, and makes way for repeats of Bones.

kiefer241Jack may be back but last night’s premiere of 24 managed 602,000 across its two hours.

Today Seven has adjusted its plans for its Sunday line-up, rushing Bones back into schedule, to air at 9:30pm -but only as repeats.

It will air the episode 14, “The Man on the Fairway” following the return of City Homicide.

This pushes 24 out to 10:30pm, and reduces it to a one hour episode instead of the planned two hours.

  1. Running a double episode from 9.30 was a mistake. Viewers in large numbers will not commit to two hours of a sigle show that late. Ratings could have been higher if it was just a sigle episode.

  2. Sorry to all the 24 fans.

But I’m a Bones fan and I’m consued as to why Ch7 would run repeats and not new episodes? They repeated it all over summer.

  3. I’m not surprised, well actually I’m surprised it was not axed given the ratings but I like what I saw last night but Sunday 10:30 a lot are not going to watch it because of work or school the next day but it’s better than nothing.

Wonder if Bones re-run will do much better?

  4. Must say I’m chuffed at this news as I’m a huge Bones fan and haven’t seen the old episodes. And 24 is a yawn fest so it’s better off in a late time slot.

  5. @daniel, they were when they cut big bang theory.

and i think 10 made an adjustment a few weeks back, but we can forgive that because they released their timetable so early.

  6. Yeh I looked at the EPG built on on my SD dvd/vcr combo recorder, and it said 24 was on sunday at 930pm and not on next wednesday. Obviously they are yet to adjust the sunday night time.

  7. bone repeats? what for, they were planning on showing new ones in feb, then they took that off their website and instead changed it to 2009, and now they are bringing it back again but only repeats? i saw them the first time, ratings season is on so everything should be new, no excuse for repeats, let me know when new ones start 7, until then i’ll be on 10.

  8. I thought we would’ve at least gotten 2 X 2 hrs (like in the states) with Bones returning the following Sunday and 24 moving to 10.30 but I guess there’s no pleasing Seven, gotta bring in the oldies and mediocre beats exciting everytime.

  9. Lets face it, 24 is targeted at males. These shows don’t work in primetime because the male will always get too much stick from the female so will cave in to watching a tame drama series on the other channel (from personal experience…)

  10. well bad news for the fans, but they should be lucky they got 1 episode at 9:30.

i guess we all saw this coming the second we saw 7’s lineup. they really should have saved themselves the embarrassment and started the ratings season with it there. what were they thinking putting it at 9:30.

i noticed that after last nights episode it just said “next sunday” – no timeslot. so thats when i knew

  11. I think many of us expected 24 to be a one hour 10:30 show once Seven had bedded it in with double eps, which would have also seen it catch up to the US.

Doing it a lot earlier is indicative it wasn’t content with last night’s response and prepared to risk its Sunday share. If they lose this Sunday night there could be a bit of egg given the hype….

  12. i though that was already decided, or was that the week after? on the 7 website it has been saying bones will move to sunday in feb for a few weeks now.

anyway 24 belongs in a 10:30 slot. and sunday is the highest rating 10:30 slot so its not that bad.

  13. When they bump a show to 10.30 (justifiably or not) in which case many viewers tune out, it should be expected that reintroducing it back into earlier prime time will not do as well.

  14. i’m not sure about anyone else but on other blogs we were shocked to find out that 24 was getting a look at a 9:30 timeslot. it is a traditional 10:30 type show. 600k is lower than anyone thought so i guess this makes sense. the 7 website said that bones was returning to 9:30 Sun so 24 at 10:30 was always part of the plan they’ve just done it a week earlier.

all due respect Matthew but nothing has been bumped back anywhere just reduced to a single episode.

personally i only started watching bones last season and judging by the rating so did a lot of people. so the fact that they are repeats does not bother me.

  15. I thought this might happen Im a huge Bones fan too, but if 24 is going to be pushed back then 7 better start showing new episodes of Bones soon not ones already out on dvd, its only been the first week of the ratings season and already I am annoyed.
