Bumped: 24

After 24's middling return last night it gets downgraded by Seven, and makes way for repeats of Bones.

kiefer241Jack may be back but last night’s premiere of 24 managed 602,000 across its two hours.

Today Seven has adjusted its plans for its Sunday line-up, rushing Bones back into schedule, to air at 9:30pm -but only as repeats.

It will air the episode 14, “The Man on the Fairway” following the return of City Homicide.

This pushes 24 out to 10:30pm, and reduces it to a one hour episode instead of the planned two hours.

  1. Hi Guys ,

could anyone tell me how I could watch the 2hr episode telecast on the 5th as I have missed it , is there a site where I can download it or watch it ?

    thanks

  2. I’m with natasha, I’m a female who has adored 24 for seven years and many of my female friends love it too. I dont think that has anything to do with it. Channel 7 barely promoted 24. with all the Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy crap they promoted through the tennis, i saw about ten promos of 24. And they weren’t shown all day like the others, they were shown sparingly late at night. Of course its not gonna rate well if people dont know its back.

I’m with you too Jads, Aus TV programming is shithouse. they just move it all around and never listen to what the consumers are saying :S

  3. “Lets face it, 24 is targeted at males. These shows don’t work in primetime because the male will always get too much stick from the female so will cave in to watching a tame drama series on the other channel (from personal experience…)”

You did not say that. I am female and I love 24.

  4. *throws hand up in the air and asks ‘why????’

I tried C7, I really tried. Looks like it’s back to the torrents for me.

How could they have expected big numbers? If it wasn’t for this fine website, I’d never have known about 24 being on wednesday. I only saw 1 advertisement for 24 on C7. ONE (i know, im sure there were many more). And when did i see this add? During the add break right before it started.

Yes, its a ‘blokey’ show, but for crying out loud, do we guys not deserve at least just one prime time show shown at a reasonable hour? Yes, its an aquired taste i guess, but knocking this show around different time slots makes it extremely difficult for fans to keep track (or new fans to get hooked) – and when you lose track (missing an episode here n’ there) – you tent not to bother any more, and just wait for the dvd. I thoroughly enjoyed the show on wednesday, but the season has been neutered already.

  5. I honestly think this was Seven’s plan from the start. Hence why they didn’t plan anything in the 10.30 sunday slot and had Bones as a returning programme on their website for Feb.

    Conspiracy?!? 😛

At least its on, I’ll just set my PVR and watch it Wednesday Nights when there is nothing else on I want to watch.

  6. Here’s 7 problem – they have yet to clue into the fact that 24 is one of the most popularly downloaded shows. I’m sure people might put up with a week’s delay in, 7 behind before they even showed their first one? Zero chance. It doesn’t matter how much publicity they give the thing, they were never going to get a decent rating with so many viewers already having seen it.

  7. Dangit!

Ok.. I’m fine with it being on at 10.30, but I was really looking forward to it being a double episode. Just play it until 12.30 or so Seven! Now I have to wait a week! 🙁

  8. Channel 7 suck, although i’m not surprised this happened.
I guess i’ll just add this to the plethora of other shows I download thanks to bad programming and sheduling from aussie tv networks.
Australian TV is shit, all they ever do is piss around with scheduling and wonder why no one watches.

  9. Totally agree with you Nick, at least we get Bones. New eps start in the US this week so hopefully they fast track it after this Sunday’s repeat.

I should be happy 24’s still on, even at a later timeslot. Just disappointed at the way commercial channels are treating the viewers with all this chopping and changing.

They wanted to stop people from downloading, so they started fast tracking. But they continue to change timeslots, run shows overtime and have more ad breaks. No wonder people are downloading.

  10. I must agree with Paul. The promotion was quite weak. I can’t remember one ad for 24 during the tennis or at all really. The show is a very niche genre in many ways and it is hard to capture new audiences with such minimal advertising. I had a feeling the show would be pushed around a lot in terms of scheduling. Perhaps it’s time to start loading this one. Shame on 7 for not giving it a chance.

  11. Channel 7 are just Bastards anyway!! Im not surprised that 24 got the numbers it did, what do you expect, it was poorly advertised during the Australian open, they only ran 15 second advertisements, compare that with the shit desperate housewives showed!! I only realised until yesterday that it was going for 2 hours. Isn’t it logical that if a popular action drama premiers for 2 hours the network should build it up so that people are excited its back ? Thats definetely what I would of done, Ive seen alot of the FOX adverts for 24 and they are stunning. Hype?? who said there was any hype?? Im probably the biggest 24 fan and i didnt feel there was any hype!!

Last Nights episodes were very good i thought. but if they only got 600 k veiwers then i think i know why, Every 5 minutes there was a F***ing Ad break, i thought 24 only ran its Ad breaks when ever the Clock screen came on!! Channel 7 planned this so that it could dump it quickly!! Take a look on the channel 7 website and 24 isnt even listed under TV shows!! its defenitely not getting the respect it deserves.

  12. bee desperate housewives still does reasonably well, if that was getting 600 k it would be moved too. Though i agree about the meter boxes, i dont trust them. How can you possibly get an estimate from a couple thousand boxes and just assume another amount is watching…. bit fishy

All very expected, actually guessed 24 would rate 600 k. At least its still on, it is such 10:30 show, so is boston legal, Lost, prison break. And look on the brighter side, we get an extra quality show on at 9.30 now with Bones (although repeats)

  13. Typical!! I should have known that 7 wouldn’t give a brilliant show like 24 the respect it deserves.

Instead we have to put up with rubbish like Desperate Housewives!

And only 602,000 viewers? I want to know what idiots are getting these rating meter boxes!

  14. Very disappointing, but i somewhat expected it. The show hasn’t set the world on fire in Australia for many years (7’s programming partly to blame imo).

I was happy that they decided to show it early, we wouldn’t have been so far behind if they stuck with the double episode on Sunday. But a promo for a show that goes for 14.8 seconds, you can’t possibly expect to draw new viewers in to the type of show 24 is in that amount of time!

I’m not saying that they should use 2-4 minutes to promote the hell out of it, i just mean that it’s very hard to capture what the show is about in such a quick promo clip.

I remember a few years ago (season 5 from memory), it was doing decent numbers for the first few weeks in it’s usual slot. Then they decided to give the show a double episode airing on sunday night at 8:30pm. That programming decision killed the momentum that the show had built up – not many tuned in on that Sunday, and the show never had the same ratings for the rest of the season when it reverted back to it’s original night.

    1. Lost stays at 10:30 Wed (for now).

Any talk of BBT as “first axing of 2009 ratings” is off the mark. Ratings don’t start til Sunday. Just because something was in the schedule doesn’t mean it was even planned to go our. There has been talk this year of “phony” programming to throw the opposition off the scent.

First axing of 2009 ratings as far as this site is concerned won’t be before Monday when an audience, and network, responds to an aired show and it’s removed.

  15. @ Daniel, 9 were the first to strike the axe, It’s called The Big Bang Theory…and that has been completely cut from the sched, as apposed to a late night slot for 24.
