TV Tonight is hearing unconfirmed reports that production staff on Nine’s Domestic Blitz were advised the show was given its marching orders yesterday.
This week the makeover show was just pipped by TEN’s Biggest Loser, but nudged ahead of Seven’s new Sunday Night show.
The week before it hovered around 1m viewers. The show, which incorporates plenty of sponsor products, is down about 500,000 on its 2008 figures.
Nine has several other feelgood shows in the pipeline. Late last year Nine CEO David Gyngell recently said, “There’s a substantial sea change in recent times as the economy gets tougher and viewers look to comfort.
“I think people increasingly relate to their communities.”
But more recently media analyst Steve Allen said, “It’s dead, viewers are just over it now. It’s too over the top.”
Giaan Rooney’s Battlefronts also fell out of favour with viewers. Domestic Blitz is hosted by Scott Cam and Shelley Craft.
Nine is likely to have several episodes in the can. If the rumour proves true it remains to be seen whether it will run them out or hold off.
UPDATED: The Sunday Telegraph refers to whispering campaign on DB adding that a Nine source indicated programming for 2010 was ‘yet to be finalised’ and network bosses were ‘happy with the (lesser) returns for the makeover series.’

i liked scot in any show he does will miss him
Too much glurge, too much product placement, not anywhere near enough makeover tips.
There are worse shows to axe than that one… what is more concerning is what will end up in its place given 9’s lack of programming ability this year so far…
Wasn’t this supposed to be a shining example of “blue sky television” that everyone would want to be watching this year?
with last years ratings 9 probably thought they had a long term hit on their hands.
my prediction is that they will play out the episodes that have been made i doubt they will let a high production cost show rot. but then that will be it. 9 doesn’t have that type of money to waste
still won’t make me watch Sunday night… now thats rubbish
The show was a big contrived turd just like most reality shows. It was just one endless plug for their sponsors, coupled with the top 40 music, and a cringeworthy and staged sentimental tone.
I never expected this to succeed, but I would have thought that 9 would have wanted to hang on to it seeing as how it beat Sunday Night and all.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. Now if they could only also use that axe on Wipeout Australia, Australian Ladette to Lady, The Farmer Wants A Wife and spend the money on some scripted drama instead, Nine might have something worth watching again.
Sorry Scotty, the Gravy Train is over. Time to get a real job again.
Domestic Blitz is too mawkish. They should go to random houses, suprise the occupants that their house has been randomly selected, conduct their renovations and leave out the saccharine like extravagant sentimentality.
This is great news. I hope it’s true so this tacky show will finally be gone from our screens.
I hope they improve this timeslot by putting on repeats of Temptation or even better repeats of Larry Emdur hosting the “price is right”. Truly legendary television.
Fantastic!! The less tacky gardening makeover shows there are, the better
good, now can channel 9 put some real programing on, not these garden/lifestyle shows, why dont u try gossip girl, a show that should be on at a 6:30/7:30 or 8:30 timeslot not a 11:30pm, or Big band theory now thats its been renewed in the us, why not survivor or even CSI repeats would b good.
If the rumor is true which I suspect it is then why didn’t 9 do one of 2 things either try it on a different night or wait until TBL finishes and then see how it goes it probably would have picked up after TBL
Too contrived, manipulative and exploitative made for very creepy viewing – good riddance
Totally agree Craig, that Delta song was very off putting. But i’m surprised 9 were so fast to supposedly swing the axe on this. I’m assuming it has huge production costs, in the same vein as Jamie Durie’s Outdoor Room. Its loss of 500k viewers is quite substantial so I guess this could be true.
Can’t stand Shelley Craft and like Scott Cam’s laid-on-with-a-shovel-blokeyness even less. Good riddance!
Craig, that’s solely your opinion that Delta’s song is ‘hideous’. Like with all forms of art, different songs/movies/tv shows/literature etc appeal differently to everyone. I’m tired of people bashing something just because it doesn’t appeal to them.
Craig: how can you call that Delta Goodrem song (Believe Again) hideous? The song is beautiful if you listen to it on its own but perhaps Nine should not have used the song to promote Domestic Blitz. And yes I am a Delta fan.
Whoa! Nine axed it so quickly! It was doing 1.6 only a few months ago. How quickly things change…
I never watched it anyway, i hate this kind of show, but those ads over summer with that hideous Delta Goodrem song made me want to run off to the bathroom and throw up everytime I saw it, cheesey and schmultzy in the extreme!
Cant say i will miss this show, its about time these lifestlye shows are taken off the air, hopefully next will be the factuals.
I can honestly say I never even knew it existed. Though, looking at those two, I’m glad I didn’t 🙂
