Rafters finale to shake up Tuesdays

Tuesday nights are about to get a major change with the season finale of Packed to the Rafters airing on March 24th.

packed-to-the-rafters-cast3Channel Seven’s king-hit Tuesday night line up is about to get a major change with the season finale of Packed to the Rafters airing on March 24th.

Episode 22 of the hit series will see “Julie and Dave wrestle with a life-changing decision. Rachel reveals a painful secret from her past. And Ben is snakey after the arrival of his girlfriend Melissa’s ex-fiance.”

Together with its factuals and All Saints, the series has helped the network win Tuesdays with unbeatable leads over Nine and TEN.

From March 29th All Saints will shift to 8:30pm, with an episode in which a winery explosion puts the MRU’s teamwork to the test.

At 9:30 Seven will screen new episodes of My Shocking Story, revisiting an Indonesian man previously featured as “Treeman.”

It will compete against TEN’s Lie to Me while Nine is yet to announce what will replace Aussie Ladette to Lady which ends the week before.

  1. “Aaron” is actually a Channel 7 insider, which may already be obvious to anyone familiar with his posts.

Keep up the good work David – you treat all networks fairly and have none of the biases evident in other media forums.

  2. Majorette, unless are one of those few thousand Australians with people meters, your viewing habits, regardless of whether you tape or not, wouldn’t even come into the equation of television ratings…

  3. OK, I watch ‘Packed To The Rafters’ & *All Saints* Ch7 +++ ‘NCIS’ & ‘Lie to Me’ Ch10.on Tuesday’s.
I mainly tape them all for later viewing as the overworked advertising (especially in the final quarter) in these shows ruins the story lines.

What I would like to know. If numerous other people like me tape shows for later viewing how does this work with ratings etc ???

  4. The other thing to note is that Dr Who is listed this week in The Australian Review section as having its final episode on Tuesday 17 March. Obviously the ABC is planning to move The Bill back into that spot.

  5. i think there is some sense to what aaron is saying my shocking story has limited episodes and is often used by 7 as a filler. i think it will only be on for 3 weeks until after easter. but all saints will definitely stay at 8:30 for a long time. it gets an 8:30 run every year.

there will probably be 10 ratings weeks before rafters starts up again i would say in that time the 9:30 spot would go to either the amazing race or castle, which got good numbers for it’s premier in the US, 7 should air it soon if it continues.

  6. Hey

I just said insinuates. You have new episodes of Shocking Story instead of episode. It kind of makes it sound like that is the new schedule.

I guess I would have worded it as “The season finale of PTTR is on the 24th March. For the 31st March there is (insert line-up) but expect a new Tuesday line-up to be announced as the following week is the non ratings Easter period”

Judging my people’s responses on this board and others, it seems like people are thinking that Seven;s new line-up is what is stated. Once peopel realise that the Easter week is the following week it tends to make more sense as a one off thing.

  7. The story is about the finale Rafters on the 24th and what’s happening on the 31st. Easter non-ratings are from April 5. Nowhere was there any suggestion of Easter or beyond. Not sure which line you are ‘correcting.’

  8. wikipedia used to say (has been taken off since) that season 2 rafters would start june30. and if my calculations are right that would mean that they would fit the whole 22week season in this year if they ran non stop the final would be in the last week of ratings.

david it is the final of ladette and farmer next week, wouldn’t we have usually found out their replacements by now? if they aren’t announced soon can we expect more TBA’s in the guides.

  9. Hey
I wanted to make a correction to this story. The ‘new’ Tuesday line-up is not the most accurate way to put it. It insinuates that this Seven’s new Tuesday line-up which means that Tuesday nights in general will be a lower rating night for Seven.
If researched further, you will see that PTTR is finishing in the second last week before the Easter non ratings period. That means Seven cannot really launch an all new Tuesday on the last week before Easter. So as a temporary measure, Seven have just put All Saints at 8:30 followed by My Shocking Story as a 1 week temporary measure. This may even continue for the following two weeks since it is the Easter non ratings period. However, after that Seven will launch a stronger Tuesday once again.
So before we start comparing the slots – will Lie to Me ratings get higher etc etc, please remember that the line-up announced of All Saints and Shocking Story was a one week schedule as it is the final ratings week before the Easter break.

  10. No weekly dose of Rafters? Awww 🙁 But it will prove to be much more interesting ratings-wise. I think Rafters-less Tuesday is Ten’s big chance to snag a win. No idea how Nine or Seven will go though.

  11. Is that the second season of packed to the rafters? Wow they’re going through them fast.

I’d like Lost at a better time. I hate the fact that there’s so much uncertainty in when Lost will air next, especially after the shocking so-called easter break during season 4 last year. “Lost will be back in 2 weeks after easter” more like 5 weeks!

  12. Ratings battles are about to get closer.

With no masive lead on a tuesday Seven are going to find it hard to crawl back from Nine’s big wins on a Monday Night. They really needed to keep Tuesdays strong, and All Saints isn’t going to pull figures of 1.8 million, I can see around the 1.2-1.4 million mark and that’s it. Won’t be landmark wins for Seven.

  13. Will be quite interesting to see what happens. I think we’ll see a big drop in numbers in general for Tuesday’s, but I also think Ten will do well post 8.30. My Shocking Story did quite well with the treeman ep that aired after Criminal Minds last year. Could be a surprise little hit.

I’m thinking Rafters will only go on a short break, perhaps back within 10 weeks or so.

  14. Oh great My Shocking story in prime time, more factuals thats all we need. I know these shows don’t have a hope in hell of airing in prime time but when is 7 going to screen( and I know 7 are pretty good) but I want American dad, family guy, heroes, las vegas and all new Bones on(which hopefully will air in prime time).

  15. Well I predict that NCIS and Lie to Me will win post 8.30, Two and a Half Men will probably lift by a few hundred thousand as well and Find My Family might suffer a drop in viewers
