Seven acquires Russell Brand’s Ponderland

Seven picks up controversial British comedian Russell Brand and his stand up series, Ponderland.

russell-brandSeven has picked up the rights to UK comedian Russell Brand’s series, Ponderland.

The show consists largely of Brand giving a series of monologues in a stand-up style, interspersed with old television and video footage. The Channel 4 series attracted mixed reviews in the UK but scored a BAFTA nomination and a second series.

Each episode tackles a different topic – from love, family and pets, to holidays, crime and sport.

Last year during The Russell Brand Show a series of obscene voice messages were left for 78-year-old actor Andrew Sachs by Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross. The two presenters were criticised by a number of MPs, including PM Gordon Brown. Following the complaints, Brand and Ross were suspended from their positions at the BBC whilst both the BBC and Ofcom launched investigations. Brand resigned from the BBC.

Brand brings his sell-out UK stand-up tour, “Scandalous”, to Sydney and Melbourne next week.

No airdate has yet been announced for Ponderland.

  1. dmc68 you have misunderstood completley. he was poking fun at the woman who killed the budgie her ridiculous excuses for doing so. Showing her up to be the idiot she was and commenting on how stupid the situation was in the first place. that it never should have been. That section with the woman and the dog was disgusting. and thats what he was saying. not this is great go do it.

    and also Tony
“Brand’s image is based on sex and drugs; very boring”

Brand is a success story. His image is of one who went through addiction, beat it, and now helps raise money and awareness to try and give other drug addicts a second chance like he got. He openly talks about the awful things he did while on drugs and tells how much it damaged his life and career and also how it hurt those around him. He does not glamorise drugs but urges other people not to make the mistakes he did. I think this is a positive thing.

Russell is original and very intelligent…and cute! 🙂

  2. I adore ponderland. I think its really clever and very, very funny. I’m quite suprised they started it at season 2, there were some great ones in season one. The pets episode was always bound to upset people. some of the episodes are better than others but overall its a really great show. I find Russell Brand really loveable in this. so glad we finally got it here in aus

  3. he wasnt making a joke about the bird being killed, but at the situation. I loved Ponderland when it was on for the 1/2 hour I actually laughed at everything he said..out loud by myself. That doesnt happen!!

    brilliant show thanks so much!

  4. I have quite an open mind but when I watched Russell Brands Ponderland last night, I found it absolutely disgusting. What is funny about a bird being stomped on? A women having supposed sex with animals and whatever other crap he rambled on about. I would like to treat him like the budgie and stomp on him!!!

  5. Brilliant, distinctive comedian – a real original. Glad his programme is finally coming to Australian TV. For those few people who need to post and complain, you just have to turn the tv off or switch to another channel, instead of whingeing.

  6. I appreciate this guy has fans, but I disagree with channel 7’s promotional ads of the show. His jokes on beastiality are offensive and am disappointed channel 7 sees it fit to air to all viewers during ad breaks.

  7. I love Russell Brand’s series of Ponderland.
I wish that they could make a new series instead of playing the old UK series, but i guess he resigned from BBC so that wont be happening.
I think it should be on a tuesday night at 9:00pm

  8. This guy was epic in Forgetting Sarah Marshall!! I’d give his show a shot, I expect this to take a 10:30 slot, Seven should air it on Thursdays in place of Scrubs repeats

  9. when i first heard UK comedy i thought great fit for saturdays, but this sound a bit family unfriendly so my prediction is that it will be a 10:30 filler.

    sounds like an ok show.
