Thank God it’s there

Seven begins work on Thank God You're Here, eyeing a post-Easter launch for the show.

tgyh12Seven is preparing its new comedy show Thank God You’re Here, which it poached from TEN at a new studio space at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds.

“We needed something big to accommodate our audience and this is perfect here,” Tom Gleisner said. “It’s turning into a bit of a studio lot.”

The studio recently housed season two of the ABC’s Librarians, which had to find a new home after the building it built as a library in Sturt St South Melbourne was no longer available. That’s likely to leave Middleton Interactive Library with a different look, especially for exteriors.

TGYH is likely to launch after Easter and become one of the network’s big second-quarter shows. Don’t be surprised if it takes the place of Australia’s Got Talent on Wednesday nights.

The show is once again hosted by Shane Bourne, already entrenched as a Seven personality thanks to City Homicide.

  1. Ryan, and all those other doubting Thomases…….
Do you actually think someone from Channel 7 casts the episodes of TGYH?
You clearly have no idea about WD and how they work.
No Channel 7 does not cast the shows and shove their personalities in the scenarios. Comics from across the board are invited to walk through the blue door, as considered by the producers, Working Dog.
Do you really think you know what you’re talking about by suggesting Hamish and Dave Hughes won’t be on? A bit slack mate….Hamish recorded last weeks’ episode. Gee, you’re a real guru.

  2. I went to the taping of episode 2 at Melb Showgrounds tonight. I won’t give away the scenarios, but performers were Hamish Blake, Peter Rowsthorne, Josie Long (UK guest, from Skins), and Rob Carlton. Brian Nankervis still doing audience warmup and he is a very funny guy! The main ensemble cast all return, Heidi, Nicola, Ed and Daniel. The scenes they recorded seemed really long so I guess some less funny parts will get chopped. Recording went from 7:30 til 10:40! They love their live audience– free drinks beforehand, lollies during taping and a showbag as you leave including a Jetlag Travel book and The Panel Live CD! In their new home in the poultry pavillion at the showgrounds they are at the mercy of their surroundings. They had to do a lot of pickups after the show because of outside noises during taping like the nearby V-Line train and a helicopter going over. Apparently if it rains, they are “stuffed” because they are just under a tin roof with no noise protection. I would say Rob’s performance was the one to look out for in the episode. He really got into his scene. Tom would not reveal what day or timeslot the show would return in, though he did know– just wouldn’t say. And he said they are taping about 5 weeks ahead of airing, so it should premiere in the week starting 20 April.

  3. Why would people want this to fail?? Its the same show on a different (albeit better) network!! Its not Seven’s fault other channels don’t have the brains to cherish whats goin for them, Working Dog know that Seven is the Number 1 network in the country and will be able to get maximum ratings for TGYH on that network as well as a good price to produce it.

Ryan where did you get the idea that Kath and Kims ratings went down on 7?

  4. Will peopel start thinking with their heads and be less emotional about it. I would think that producing TGYH costs a lot of money and IMO the only reason 7 got it because they were prepared to pay for it. I’m assuming 10 has been cutting back on spending for other programs because of their commitment to One HD.
I don’t care if it jumps channel as long as it’s locally produced and show-cases our local talent. There’s too much import anyway that makes watching our TV really boring.

  5. Ah Ryan – Seven got Kath and Kim and rating didn’t go way down they went way up – 2.521 million watched the first ep – a record only beaten by Underbelly this year.

The series averaged 2.1 and was the highest rating show of 2007 – much higher than it did on ABC.

  6. I won’t be watching the traitors. Hop it’s a massive flop. Seven just go and buy staff, ideas and TV shows from other networks. Channel copycat.

  7. ten knew tgyh wasnt worth what seven paid for it! esp in these times. put it this way seven would be wanting massve numbers for it considering the price they paid!
I also agree that seven’s personalities are shocking and if they use literally any of them they will fail.

  8. The thing that annoys me about this is the fact that TEN has had its only decent hit for years taken from them. TEn originally gave the show a good run and established its fan base. Now Seven has come along and picked it up, just like they did with Kath & Kim. Come up with your own shows Seven!

  9. 1 million a show for this kind of show is big money, considering it cost about 200 000 or more for a drama ep. I am so torn cause i really loved this show on ten but feel like seven could vey well screw it up by putting their already over exposed up front “talent” in the show and not the great perfomers that ten had on.

Please don’t do it working dog don’t let them put Larry, Koch, Berrets, denyer or the others on it wont be good. Trust me!

  10. Personally, I don’t give a shit what network it is on, as long as I finally get to see new episodes.

I think the 9 and 10 fanboys just have sour grapes because their beloved networks couldn’t afford the show.

  11. I know this is immature but it really makes me angry that this will be on Seven and not TEN. TEN really have to work hard for hits, and all Seven have to do is put out another factual and it’s a hit! And then they go and poach this!

  12. all i can say is tgyh isnt worth a million an ep! i cant see it rating higher than 1.4m. also some of the people on the show like hamish, dave hughes wont be on there and they were the best ones

  13. Time will tell if the fans follow the show to ch7 or if they will drop it if the ratings don’t meet with their expectations. While I want the guys to do well (they do good work) I hate they dropped 10 and a sick part of my hopes it fails.
