Ben Silverman, “hitmaker.”

US media play tough (again) on NBC executive Ben Silverman as his shows continue to struggle in the US.

bensilvermanIf you’ve ever thought were tough on television executives in Oz, get a load of what they’re saying about Ben Silverman lately.

Silverman is co-chairman of NBC, after coming across from production company Reveille (which he sold to Shine’s Elisabeth Murdoch). He executive produced The Office, The Biggest Loser, and ABC’s Ugly Betty, but at NBC he’s struggled to deliver.

Kath & Kim was another of his shows, but its future is unclear. Now the one that looks like replacing it, Parks and Recreations, is gathering disappointing reviews.

The Chopping Block was another, cancelled after three weeks on air.

NYMag looks back over all 23 series created after Silverman took command of TV’s fourth-place network in May of 2007, along with their total number of aired episodes.

And in several ruthless graphics, it lays out in no uncertain terms how many of the acquisitions were original / remakes / spin-off / adaptations, how fast they were cancelled, how long they lasted, and total number of Emmys won (that’s zero).

Biting stuff. Check it out here.

  1. I watched Parks & Recreations last night. It’s a bit soft, but I think it’ll strengthen itself out after a few episodes if it’s allowed the chance.
