Deal wins first round

Deal wins against Hot Seat without even taking a hit. But Nine improves its 5:30 audience and a lift to News.

deal-no-deal1Deal or No Deal has won the first round in the 5:30pm battle.

Deal took home 776,000 viewers in 5 cities.

Adjusted for its 5pm airing in Brisbane, Hot Seat had 612,000.

In the sheer 5:30pm figures across both networks, Seven still won the day with 776,000 while Nine (including Extra in Brisbane) had 699,000.

Seven also won the 6pm News in each city with 1.65m to Nine’s 1.29m. The race was closest in Melbourne and Hot Seat only won in Eddie McGuire’s home city. Comparatively, Nine picked up about another 100,000 viewers to its News services with the lead in.

Hot Seat picked up around 200,000 for than Antiques Roadshow averages, a good positive indicator for the network. Deal‘s figure remained untouched by the stoush.

Despite Underbelly dropping to 1.8m, Nine still won Monday with a huge 8% lead over Seven and now has two out of two nights won this week.

UPDATED: Beating both game shows was TEN News, including from 5:30 – 6, which had 1.02m viewers.

  1. Geeez, Millionaire gets worse. Why the format! Wouldnt quick ?’s or a game with more motive be better. Where is the incentive for the others. So sad, could’ve been so good. I IQ it before Jeopardy on Foxtel! How about a foxtel game channel?
They could of made millionaire brilliant! I forgot its channel 9!

  2. Gee, Million $ Wheel of Fortune with the talented Tim Campbell, debuted higher than the Million $ Hot Seat, it also maintained a more than steady audience between about 520 and 620 every night. so the question is will the same fate befall Eddie I wonder?

  3. we should point out that the premier of million dollar wheel was 718k, we all know what happened there, that was 100k more than what millionaire did. i though episode 2 was really bad.
i confidently predict a majorflop here, possibly not lasting to 20 eps especially if it starts affecting the news.

  4. I watched a bit of millionaire HS tonight, it was ok, i think it’s nines best thing at 530pm since they lost the price is right.

It was funny to see all the old signage around in Hot seat, including the official logo- obvoiusly it was too much hassle to edit out scenes that showed the old name to the show.

I still like deal better, HS was a bit slow, and i was annoyed that 7 and nine had lined up their ads so that when HS went to an ad, so did the deal. I ended up switching back to deal.

  5. I was so dissapointed. I love a good game show. Thought is would be more like USA version. But no – Eddie still has to put in all his stupid comments and hear people sing!! As for the format of passing and the $ dropping etc, all I can say is 7 can relax. I miss Temptation 🙁

  6. Listening to the end of Kyle & Jackie O on radio this morning, they had Andrew O’Keefe on just after 9am and told him the good news that he had won. He also said he didn’t watch Hot Seat last night.

  7. Personally, I watched Hot Seat and didn’t think it was too bad – but with Eddie continually saying “come on” “which one are you gonna choose?” “are you sure?” “what? You’re changing your mind again?!” etc he was a little too intrusive. Still I will stick with Millionaire as I scarcely was DOND.

  8. hello. I’m Anita.I was wondering how I go in this show deal or not deal i want that. is deal or not deal in Sydney?,
    My best wishes.

  9. People watching Hot Seat last night were more than likely interested to see what Eddie’s up to – figures in a weeks time will be a better guess as to whether the show will stay on after the initial 4 week run.
Also, Eddie/Nine ran a decent publicity campaign across most brekky radio shows in Melbourne… not sure what they did interstate, anyone know?

  10. One thought for Hot Seat, surely the set should be bright, light and fun like Deal. It doesn’t make sense to make it look dark and night time at 5-30pm

  11. How does Hot Seat figures compare with figures of Wheel of Fortune from last year? I suspect Hot Seat will have a two week high before plummeting to more steady figures.

  12. i like any show better than deal or no deal… there’s no brains involved in that show, only luck, while on hot seat you gotta think, strategise… maybe it’s just me but i don’t like my brains atrophying thanks to deal or no deal

  13. LOL at the amount of money actually given away on Hot Seat.
Each time one of the 10 people get it wrong, the cash drops down one step.
So unless the 4th person gets all questions correct, the prize money seems to be 125k or less.

  14. all this demonstrates just what a lame choice Antiques Roadshow was – a 200k lift and no adjustment to deal suggests Nine was actually driving away viewers with contemptible programming

  15. its gonna take more than hot seat for me to watch the hideous peter overton in sydney 9 news…memo nine..its not the lead in that turns viewer off your news…its the bloke in the chair…bring back Fergo!

  16. These are the numbers for deal and wheel of fortune on the 26th of May 2008, wheels premiere. from media spy

    16 Deal or No Deal Seven 940,000 267,000 244,000 198,000 100,000 131,000
    24 Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune Nine 718,000 230,000 220,000 130,000 91,000 47,000

exceptionally high figures for deal back then

  17. I was listening to Nova yesterday and Merrick Rosso and Kate were having a chat with Eddie. Wow, I didn’t realise just how pompous and arrogant he was. I bet it cut deep that he lost out to Andrew…

  18. That seems like a positive sign for Nine, I doubt they were hoping to knock off DOND right away. (What were the first-night ratings for the most recent iteration of Wheel of Fortune?)
